Every year I embark on a solo health retreat for learning and reflection. This year I decided to share some of the wisdom I received. I recognize everyone may not have this learning opportunity but also feel everyone could take a day for personal healing and a day is definitely achievable and you dont even need to leave the area.
Firstly, go somewhere in nature you have not been before. New thoughts demand a new environment. Set an intention for what you want to work on. Self-awareness is the basis for all healing. As all healing is self-healing. And yet everyone on a healing path can benefit from a holistic practitioner.
Secondly, tune in to what is happening in your body and what energetic imbalance is at the forefront. All natural systems of healing recognize this awareness. In Ayurvedic philosophy, energy is broken down into temperature. The same as in Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as Homeopathy. Are you cold? dry? hot? damp? How s your energy sluggish or hyped? Is your digestion fast/excessive or slow/sluggish? Diving deeper, if you are dry (constipated, itchy, irritable) what foods and activities might be helpful? How might you know the answers to these questions? Some might be common sense, for example constipation being damp or dry, and hot flashes or nausea as heat. If you are interested it might be helpful to discuss at your next visit. Too often we get attached to a diet we can not sustain when if we followed some guiding principles relevant to our particular situation it would be much easier. Additionally nutrients, herbs and homeopathy cannot operate alone. They must be inserted into an individualized lifestyle plan
Another philosophy shared with all natural healing methods is recognizing the disease process as imbalances with start with poor digestion and accumulation of waste, then further aggravation or damage, and then weakening that system, further disease progressions affecting metabolism, structure, nervous system.
Ultimately it is never a one size fits all protocol. Be wary of seeking a pill to fix everything. My Naturopathic wisdom is to support your healing, which requires ongoing discussion. Health is not static and should change. The process of healing is an art of helping you attune to your body like a finely tuned instrument.
Wishing you a summer of health.
