Dr. Lathan Distributes Scholastic Book Bundles to

K-5 Students 📚

More than 60,000 books will be distributed to K-5 students at SPS.

In the final two weeks of school, SPS students in grades kindergarten through fifth will receive fiction books, magazines and workbooks to help them continue learning over the summer. Students in K-3 will receive five books each, with fourth- and fifth-graders receiving three books each, as well as two STEM magazines. And beginning this year, students will also receive Summer Express Workbooks with practice opportunities in multiple content areas - math, reading, writing, phonics, vocabulary and grammar. "From an educator’s perspective, I believe reading is one of the best strategies to promote achievement and prevent students from falling behind,” said Dr. Lathan. “Children who read regularly during the summer will be better prepared to enter the classroom in August.”

SPS United: Kya Johnson, senior at Kickapoo High School.

"I think I’m going to miss the community at Kickapoo the most. The support system, the family I’ve been surrounded by, they’ve made me who I am. My teachers, my coaches, my leaders, my teammates, my classmates, everybody around me has pushed me and made me who I want to be. They’ve been an example for me to follow, and that’s what I’m going to miss the most in high school. I’m going to miss my support system here, but I know they’re still going to be cheering me on, on the court or on MSU’s campus. It’s really comforting to know that I have people at Kickapoo who will help me succeed with whatever comes next."
