THE BENEFIT OF DAYDREAMING | |
|
Believe it or not, taking some downtime from daily activities and doing nothing for periods of time is good for you. It allows space for daydreaming. Harvard Medical School researchers are finding that daydreaming “plays a role” in brain plasticity.
Brain plasticity or neuroplasticity means that the brain can change or re-adapt. This has implications for learning, memory, and the ability for brain damage recovery.
To date, the Harvard medical researchers have initiated a study on mice by tracking activities of their neurons during “quiet waking” or daydreaming time. To learn more, read HERE.

DIVERSE BACTERIA COMMUNITIES
PROTECT THE GUT
Researchers at the University of Oxford have discovered that diverse communities of good bacteria that are resident to the gut can protect the gut from pathogens more effectively than just one single species of bacteria. They block the pathogens by eating up the nutrients that the pathogens need.
Specifically, the researchers learned that when microbiome communities were made up of at least 50 different species, the pathogens “grew up to 1000 times less effectively than when cultured with individual species.”
This finding explains why our guts can tend to be more vulnerable after a course of antibiotics because the antibiotics wipe out the many diverse species… that is, until we can build them back up.
Further, it emphasizes the need to support our guts by building our microbiome communities with multiple bacterial species.

We need your help!!! Opportunities continue to roll in and our work demands have intensified. More programs will be introduced in 2024. For example, we’re talking with several filmmakers about creating a documentary and a feature film on Dr. Gladys’ life and legacy. Her story is perfect for film, and it must be told!
Please help by giving generously to the Foundation and help us bring these innovative programs to fruition. You can give to the general fund, or you can earmark your gift for a specific action. All donations are tax deductible under the law.
Looking forward to hearing from you HERE.
