Should I Tell My Coordinator?

One of the most confusing times as a facilitator can be figuring out what to tell your Coordinator and when. From scraped knees to talk of suicidal thoughts, there are many situations to consider. The Challenges & Crises: When To Talk To Your Coordinator Facilitator Tip Sheet goes over what you need to talk with your Coordinator about and when it’s best to do so.

While we’ve tried to be specific and inclusive, you may still come across a scenario not covered in the Tip Sheet or one that has more nuance. The best thing to keep in mind: If you have any doubt about what to do, get your Coordinator as soon as possible!

Upcoming Volunteer In-Service Training

Join us on Thursday, June 13th, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. for Reflection Through Writing, a volunteer in-service focused on tending to our grief through writing.

Regardless of how you felt about English class growing up, this in-service, facilitated by Jana DeCristofaro, Community Response Program Coordinator, will be a welcoming, judgement free space to play with free writing as a tool to reflect on the relationship between our grief and the work we do to support children and families.

We’ll be meeting upstairs at 3903 SE 52nd Avenue in Portland, but let us know if you need a virtual option. Email jana@dougy.org to sign up.

Join Us for the Volunteer Appreciation Celebration

We are excited to celebrate you at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party! Join Dougy Center staff for food and fun as we honor all of your incredible work to support children and families who are grieving.

This year’s event is Sunday, June 2nd, 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., at our SE Portland location – 3909 SE 52nd Avenue.

If you have not yet, be sure to RSVP by May 24th to melissa@dougy.org or 503-542-4838.

We'd Love Your Help

Any chance you’re available every other Monday afternoon? We are looking for one or two volunteers to help with the meal we serve for Pathways, our group for families facing an advanced serious illness at our SE Portland home. Only available sporadically? We’d still love to hear from you! Please email rebecca@dougy.org to learn more.

If your schedule is more flexible, we are also looking for a few volunteers to help with organizing and cleaning the program areas at our SE location. Email alysha@dougy.org for more information.
