Dougy Center's online introductory course, Supporting Children, Teens, and Young Adults Who are Grieving, contains seven distinct grief education classes!


Starting from our foundational course, Becoming Grief-Informed, this enriching class bundle guides learners through Grief Myths & Misconception and how grief can manifest differently in various stages of an individual's development.

Grief as an Addiction? The Dangers of Pathologizing Grief

Join us for the 2024 International Summer Institute

Join Dougy Center’s knowledgeable staff for an opportunity to learn the basics about The Dougy Center Model, a world-renowned peer grief support model for children, teens, and their families. You’ll be joined by dynamic colleagues from across the United States and beyond who plan to implement The Dougy Center Model in their community. 


The 2024 International Summer Institute is July 22 to 26 at Dougy Center in Portland, Oregon. The training is capped at 20 participants in order to achieve an optimal experience for everyone, and there are only a few spots remaining.

National Presentations

  • Dr. Monique Mitchell, Cristina Chipriano and Juliette Martinez held the annual LYGHT Facilitator Training in Columbia, South Carolina from February 27-29, 2024. We are so grateful for all the newly trained facilitators who will be delivering this evidence-based program for youth in foster care who are grieving! 


  • It's Complicated: Death, Grief, and Estranged Relationships, a Dougy Center grief education webinar, was presented by Jana DeCristofaro, LCSW on March 7, 2024


  • Dr. Donna Schuurman and Dr. Monique Mitchell presented a customized training on understanding and supporting children and teens who are grieving for Wild Grief in Olympia, Washington on March 9, 2024


  • Becoming Grief-Informed: Foundations of Grief Education, a Dougy Center grief education webinar, was presented by Dr. Monique Mitchell on April 4, 2024


  • Dr. Donna Schuurman and Jana DeCristofaro presented a customized training on best practices to support students who are grieving for Willamette Education Service District on April 5, 2024


In the Media

Dougy Center recently collaborated with Sesame Workshop, the global impact nonprofit behind Sesame Street and more, on a new online toolkit with resources for young children, as well as for parents and adult caregivers.
