Spring has sprung and so have we!
Spring is in the air, inspiring a wellness awakening, even in the sunshine state. Springtime prompts us to welcome in a sense of renewal, with energy and enthusiasm for what comes next. And we have so much to look forward to, especially after looking back at how far we have come over the past two years.
We have plowed through many challenges, living and working through unprecedented circumstances that sparked a super busy spa season, along with unexpected staff shortages, supply issues and a lingering pandemic wave that keeps sneaking back, creating a roller coaster effect. But that hasn’t stopped us. We continue to move forward with creativity and professionalism, finding ways to meet all challenges by shifting to new ideas and tackle approaching obstacles to succeed in what we do and how we do it. Success is the totality of positive energy and continued efforts recurring day in and day out.
The FSA has amplified its support for the Florida Spa Community, staying current on government guidelines to remain compliant and focusing on direct and effective solutions for better business practices especially in our ever-changing work environment. We do this through creativity and communication. We also rely on the value acquired from our Resource Partners, which we are so appreciative of. Their awareness and contributions are extremely significant for our thriving market and we are grateful for their support of our Florida spa community, and especially for their involvement at our events which allow for collaboration, networking and building relationships. Our most recent event in Tampa exceeded all our expectations thanks to our participating Resource Partners and attending Spa Guests. The Marriott was an outstanding venue filled with impressive brands, substantial education and a full house of engaged people interacting with one another. We are now looking forward to our next event at the Ocean Reef Club this coming August with great anticipation.
We are also very excited about ISPA which is on the horizon in Las Vegas and promises to be an exceptional opportunity to meet with Industry Leaders from all over the country that will be in attendance. It will be that long awaited valued return to reconnect, network and gain insights on new trends and updates in the Spa Community from the “#1 voice” in the industry. We’re ready to pack our bags for this event.... and see you at ISPA!
Now that spring has sprung, embrace the light and stand where it’s shining and be happy. Happiness is the one thing that multiplies when you share it.
Wishing Wellness

"Voice-It" Spa Talk with Mitchell

Something magical happens when we are still.
We listen to our mind chatter, we are present, we are aware of the moment. At work we race from place to place like a child with those tennis shoes that have the built-in wheels. But that is only one aspect of being an efficient leader. I believe that the other aspect is only found in stillness. We become, not the center of the storm, but expand into the world around us that is inclusive of all storms around us. These moments of stillness do not need to wait for you to be at a retreat in Sedona, Arizona, but can even happen at a stoplight while you are driving in your Kia, Sedona. It may take some doing, but you will find your way inward and be amazed at the magic you find there.
See ya inside!
Namaste babies!

April 7th and 8th the Florida Board of Massage Therapy held their second quarterly board meeting of 2022 in Tallahassee. There were a couple of cases of note that came before the Board.
These cases consisted of the Designated Establishment Manager(DEM) requirement for ALL Licensed Massage Establishments.
- One case resulted in a reprimand to the establishment license as well as a $1000.00 Fine.
- The second case resulted in the Establishment owner having his license suspended until
compliant.
It is up to the owner/director to notify the Board of Massage Therapy of any changes to the DEM within 10 days. Discipline typically happens when there is an ongoing defiance of the laws and rules associated with Massage Therapy and Massage Therapy Establishments. If you are not sure of the rules for Massage Therapy put forth by the Board of Massage Therapy please visit https://www.flrules.org/gateway/division.asp?DivID=330.
The 2022 regular session of the Florida Legislature concluded on March 14th. This Legislative session did not have any legislation that directly affects the Massage Therapy profession.

"HIP CITY VIBES"
The FSA Event at JW Marriott Tampa Water Street - April 5th ,2022
|
|
Fortuity transpires when opportunities presents itself and this was the magic amongst our spa community at the FSA “Hip City Vibes” event, which was one of our paramount events that took place in Tampa at the JW Marriott on April 5th. It unquestionably topped the charts, exceeding all our expectations.
We are so grateful to all our Resource Partners that contributed to the success of this event and to our Spa Leaders that participated to make it so special.
The Expo Showcase was held in the JW Marriott Plant Ballroom with 34 innovative Resource Partners displaying an array of spa products, ranging from skin care, spa wear to devices and equipment. The variety of products and services offered at this event covered just about every facet necessary to operate a spa.
A panel presentation titled “The Paradigm Shift” was featured, spearheaded by FSA Board Members and Leading Industry Professionals who offered valuable insights and takeaways on industry changes in the spa space through many lenses. The panel provided a level of understanding for this new wave of leading to empower both Spa Leaders and Resources Partners for today’s success.
The day proved to be a brilliant experience enjoying the harmony of our community and the gift of togetherness. Thank you to all our Resource Partners, Spa Guests, JW Marriott Team and to our astonishing Team FSA!

Our passion is travel and our mission is to inspire and empower people to get out into the world, simultaneously leaving a positive impact on the environment and people's lives. We continue to grow our brand with stylish, well-constructed and Eco-conscious clothing and accessories that make it easy for you to get up and go, all while looking and feeling your best. Each piece is thoughtfully designed, considering everything from the materials to the manufacturing process. For if you don't have to worry about your wardrobe, you can focus on the experiences.
With our own branded store location in the MSP Airport and growing within other airport locations, we are thrilled to be joining Florida Spa Association. We share the same passion for people and the planet and want to create a lasting connection with our brand supporters; because the most meaningful connections are between people, not places.

Half of Workers Would Rather Quit Than Return to the Office Full Time
|
|
After two years of uncertainty, many companies are eager to call employees back to the office for good, new research from talent solutions and business consulting firm Robert Half shows. In a survey of more than 2,300 senior managers in the U.S., two-thirds of respondents (66 percent) said they want their teams to work on-site full time as COVID-19-related restrictions ease. This is down five points from a similar survey conducted last year, suggesting some companies have warmed up to the idea of flexible work.
Hybrid work models give employers and employees flexibility and choice and are the way forward. However, currently, only one-in-three senior managers support long-term hybrid schedules (where staff can divide time between the office and another location) and employees’ ability to choose where they work. Those in technology (37 percent) are most open to flexibility.

The Well-being Schmooze:
Biggest Buzzword Of 2022 And Why Companies
Are Out For A Surprise
|
|
The two year of living with a virus has made many rethink broader life experiences. Many has started deeply contemplating their current realities whether at work, at home or in society. The ‘Great Awakening’ we referred to is a witness to this collective transformational experience we are privileged to co-examine now.
In the first month of 2022, several new articles and research studies have been published regarding trends in HR and/or workplace. Curious to find out more, we commissioned a meta-analysis of current publishing with Oxford University’s Well-being Research Center and found one common thread across: Well-being.

Sustainability: Where fashion is heading in 2022
Last year, a lot of planning was done around fashion sustainability — but less action.
The biggest theme as we head into 2022 is the interconnection between carbon emissions, equity and supply chain.
|
|
In 2021, fashion made pledges to sustainability at COP26, material innovation accelerated and interest in circularity piqued. Most importantly, a growing realization emerged that climate change is as much about equity as it is about carbon going into 2022.
“Climate change is not about emissions. It’s about a system that has been benefiting some at the expense of the vast majority of people on the planet and the planet itself,” says Muhannad Malas, senior climate campaigner for advocacy group Stand.earth
For all its sustainability efforts, fashion made little tangible progress last year. Emissions are still going up, circularity remains elusive, next-gen textiles have yet to scale and countless garment workers are going hungry. Actions speak louder than words, but even so, for the fashion industry, heightened conversation and urgency is a positive sign. Critics are encouraged that some of the biggest brands and highest-ranking executives are talking about end-of-life impacts and establishing biodiversity strategies, reflecting a shift in mindset as new strategies are developed for next year.

Fossil fuels and low wages: Fashion’s enablers
Decarbonizing the fashion supply chain is a complicated challenge, but the level of difficulty does not make the need less urgent. If the industry devotes itself to actually achieving it, the process will need to be so sweeping that it will inherently tackle some of fashion’s other problems along the way, such as waste and overproduction and the overuse of hazardous chemicals.

The Best 15 Workouts for People Who Hate Exercise
|
|
Hate working out? Don't sweat it.
Simply choose one of these fun activities and watch your fitness soar.
Why you need activity
Whether you despise exercise or you’ve just never experienced that post-exercise boost of feel-good chemicals hitting your brain, it’s possible that you simply haven’t found the right exercise. So don’t think of it as exercise, per se, think of it as activity—because the science is clear that you need it.
A 2018 study from the American Cancer Society and published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found a link between long periods of sitting and a higher risk of death from cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and diseases related to the kidneys, lungs, and liver; then there’s the increased danger of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, and nervous disorders. In the study, prolonged sitting—six or more hours a day—was associated with a 19 percent higher rate of death from any of these causes, compared to sitting less than three hours per day.
