New Make in DRIVES

The Vehicle Services Section has recently added the make “Brightdrop” (BRDP) under the General Motors Manufacturer to DRIVES.

Legislation Update: Professional Firefighter License Plate Expiration

House Bill 24-1319 will go into effect today, Aug. 7, 2024. This means the Colorado Professional Firefighter License Plate can no longer be transferred to other passenger cars and motorcycles. To keep this plate, customers must prove they are eligible and reorder it. If they do not re-qualify, the system will reset their status, and they will have to choose a different plate and pay any fees associated with that plate. Any available credits will still be transferable.

Notice of VIN Verification Form (DR 2698) Exception

The Verification of Vehicle Identification Number (form DR 2698) was recently updated to correct a formatting error that caused the form to perform incorrectly. The updated form can be found here. It has a form date of 4/26/24.

To help our inspection partners exhaust their supply of physical forms and complete necessary system programming, counties should continue to accept the previous version of form DR 2698 (dated 9/15/2023) with inspections performed at an Air Care Colorado facility, until Sept. 30, 2024, or until the inspection expires.

Please reach out to dor_vsforms@state.co.us if you have any questions.

Reminder: Odometer Correction Requests

Dealers and owners cannot submit odometer discrepancy requests. Only counties can do this, and they must submit requests by email to: dor_trcustomerservice@state.co.us, not via DRIVES. For submission details, please review Policy 121: Odometer Discrepancies.

DMV Rule Updates

RULE 3: New Rule - Non-Traditional Vehicle Title and Registration Eligibility

The Vehicle Services Section will hold a virtual stakeholder workshop at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13 to discuss a new rule about whether certain unconventional vehicles can get on-highway or off-highway titles and registrations according to Colorado law. The link to the workshop and rule draft can be found in the DRIVES calendar

RULE 1 - Amendments Promulgated

Rule 1: Temporary Special Event License Plates will be effective on Aug. 14, 2024. The rule amendments clarify how to get a Temporary Special Event License Plate and outline the Department’s process for requesting a hearing.

RULE 6 - Amendments Promulgated

Rule 6: Colorado State Patrol License Plates will be effective on Aug. 14, 2024. The rule amendments removed the requirement for specific colors and design for these plates.

DRIVES Upgrade Information

THE LATEST

Sandbox Environment Changes

As we begin development in CORE21, there will be changes to the sandbox environment for practicing or training in DRIVES. The RDS environment will be available as a sandbox until Oct. 31. Starting Nov. 1, the sandbox will move to CVS, which users will use for their sandbox needs. Enhancements to V11 of DRIVES will be deployed in CVS during the upgrade project. The RDS environment will become the staging area for CORE21 DRIVES upgrade work. County supervisors should continue requesting access to RDS and CVS as they do now. All environment changes will be managed on the backend to ensure security access remains correct after the upgrade. Please contact Claire Stewart with any questions.

Version 11 SQR Development Halt

To prepare for the DRIVES Upgrade starting on Nov. 1, we began reducing development work on DRIVES V11 as of July 1. Any urgent development requests now require approval through the Escalation Process. A list of county development priorities to be completed before the upgrade can be found here. Please contact Claire Stewart with any questions.

DCGC Upgrade working group

The next DCGC Working Group Meeting will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. This is a great opportunity to get a monthly update on the progress of the planning work related to the upgrade. If you are interested in attending, please contact Claire Stewart.
