Guam Chamber logo New

Hafa Adai Catherine,

Can you believe it? October has graced our shores once again and we begin the new cycle of seeking eligible candidates to run for the Chamber Board. There are seven (7) seats that will be open as current Board members end their terms in December 2021. Of the seven, five (5) are 3-year seats and two (2) are 1-year, non-voting seats. To be eligible to run for the Board, a candidate must be a member in good standing with dues current and in the appropriate category and understand and ascribe to the Chamber’s Code of Ethics.

This year’s Nominating Committee is led by Christopher Duenas of Triple J Enterprises. He and this year's Nominating Committee are accepting nominations. There is an official Board Candidate packet that will have to be completed and submitted to confirm a candidate's spot on the ballot. An opportunity to nominate a member from the floor will be provided at the October 26th general membership meeting. Members interested in learning more about serving on the Board are encouraged to contact the Guam Chamber office for details. Voting will take place electronically. Ballots will be sent to the member representative noted as "point of contact" on our Chamber roster. Winning Candidates will be announced at the November 17th Annual Meeting. A special election report will be sent to the membership via email in early November with full details regarding the candidates and voting procedures. Please stay tuned to this space!

The Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA) is encouraging all small businesses to take advantage of the Smal Business Pandemic Assistance Grant program. This is a great opportunity for funding relief for eligible small businesses. To learn more about the program, click here or scroll down for details.

Congressman Michael San Nicolas was our guest speaker for our virtual general membership meeting this week. He provided a candid update to the business sector and was kind to stick around for Q & A. If you didn't have a chance to view the meeting, we have provided a link below.

The holidays are just around the corner and we encourage you to sign your company on to our Holiday Guide. There is no fee for members and it's our way of supporting you during the holiday season. Scroll down to learn more about the easy signup!

We are pleased to partner once again with Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz on the Toys for Tots program. Thank you to your members that continue to support this program each year! You make a tremendous difference to many children who would not otherwise have a Christmas. If you would like to participate, scroll down for information. If you would like to make a toy/gift contribution, feel free to drop off your contribution to any of the member company collection sites listed in this message.

We appreciate hearing from you - we respect your feedback always! Have a great weekend!

Onward Together,

Catherine Castro

97th Anniversary Celebration

We have officially canceled the 97th Anniversary Gala Celebration that was scheduled for October 2nd. Because of the current in-person pandemic restrictions, we could no longer support the Gala event.

Although we are extremely disappointed that we cannot celebrate with you again this year, we would like to advise our members that celebrated milestone

anniversaries in 2020 and 2021 (this would begin with 20 years then, in five-year increments) will still be recognized in a special but more simple, practical way - given the current restrictions. You will be receiving a letter via email regarding the details of this recognition if you haven't already. So please - be on the lookout for this!

Help support your local businesses!

Purchase Gift Cards/ Certificates

With increased COVID-19 cases many local businesses are hurting. You can help by purchasing gift cards as gifts or to use later when you feel safe to be out and about.

Order Take-Out

Restaurants, fast food places & food trucks are essential businesses and remain open during these tough times. Your support would go a long way to keep food places open another day. Tipping well helps, too!

Support Local Charities

Donate to your local charities and food banks to help make sure that everyone remains healthy and fed during these challenging times.

Support Curb-side Purchasing

Retail outlets need your business more than ever. If it is available on Guam, purchase from your local storefront. Many would be happy to meet you at your vehicle with your purchase. Call or check social media sites to find out which of your favorite places over curb-side service.

Support Your Neighbor

Check in on your neighbors, family, and friends [virtually or with a phone call] to see if they need help with picking up groceries or other necessary items. They may need a comforting ear and a friendly smile to help them get through the day.
