AUGUST DOWNTOWN DIGEST
Downtown Worcester Says, “Encore!” to Julius Caesar
Downtown was abuzz last month when the outdoor staging for Shakespeare's Julius Caesar materialized on the Worcester Common. We could not have imagined a more enthusiastic response to The Hanover Theatre Repertory’s performances of Julius Caesar on the steps of City Hall. If you were away on vacation and missed the show, we have some exciting news for you. The BID is proud to announce that due to the production’s success, THT Rep has extended Julius Caesar’s run to include the evenings of August 24th, 25th, 26th, and 28th. This is the last chance to reserve your seats now for the free, two-hour-long performance that is the must-see event of the summer. Registrations are required to guarantee a seat within the Worcester Common Oval, but you can always walk up and bring your own.

Reservations are recommended but not required and can be accessed here. Reserved seats must be claimed by 7:30 p.m. to be guaranteed. At 7:30 p.m., any unclaimed seats will be released to walk-up audience members. For more updates, please follow our Facebook event page here. As with all past THT Rep productions, COVID-19 safety guidelines will be enforced. Rest assured that this outdoor production allows for social distancing so that audiences can enjoy live theatre once again.

Trust Us – Your Kids Are Going To Beg You To Visit the Worcester Public Library
The library’s much anticipated “front door” is now open to the public. Earlier this month, the Franklin Street entrance was revealed with 8,000 square feet of additional public space and a state-of-the-art children’s area on the third floor. Every year, the library welcomes over 600,000 visitors, and the new improvements are sure to entice even more future patrons. Every year, the library welcomes over 600,000 visitors, and the new improvements are sure to entice even more future patrons. City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. tells us he's excited for people to see and enjoy all of the Worcester Public Library renovations, from the new front entrance that connects the library to Downtown to the outstanding new Pappa's Children's Center. The new improvements also include a three-story mural by local artist Ryan Gardell of Artifakt Studios, which leads patrons on a literary journey on their way to the new Pappas Children’s Center.
The BID’s Ambassadors Make Downtown Sparkle
This time of year brings plenty of unwanted weeds, high grass, and brush to Downtown Worcester. Lucky for visitors, our Ambassadors have placed intense focus on major weeding projects as more and more people are visiting Downtown Worcester to attend Woo Sox games and other popular events. In July, our Ambassadors clocked over 1,460 hours providing a variety of beautifying services Downtown. In addition to removing 4,660 pounds of trash, they also completed more than 225 weed abatement projects. We are forever grateful for their tireless efforts to make our neighborhood shine.
