LIHI is pleased to share that on June 28th the Tukwila City Council moved forward two tiny house villages in Tukwila on church-owned land, at Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ and Riverton Park United Methodist Church.
Councilmember Delostrinos Johnson stated, "This is a good opportunity to have faith instead of fear."
LIHI and its faith partners will soon be able to help 60 unhoused neighbors in Tukwila come inside to heated, insulated tiny houses and a safe community, with experienced case managers working to get them services and into permanent housing. Over time, the villages will serve hundreds of individuals, couples, and people with pets currently living outside in Tukwila.
"Thank you to Tukwila City Council for unanimously moving forward two tiny house villages serving our unhoused neighbors in Tukwila! LIHI is thrilled to partner with Pastor Jenkins and Pastor Bolerjack in providing individuals and couples experiencing homelessness in Tukwila with safety, warmth, community and a path to permanent housing," said LIHI Executive Director Sharon Lee.
Pastor Jenkins said,“Miracle Temple Church thanks the Tukwila City Council members for allowing us to carry out our vision on a larger scale with LIHI, to continue to serve, be a beacon of hope, and a light force for Tukwila's homeless population. Your unanimous support for the tiny house village demonstrates that you heard and understood the significance of this monumental project. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Pastor Jan Bolerjack said, “Riverton Park UMC is grateful to the Tukwila City Council for their decision to better the lives of our residents through addition of tiny houses, case management to deliver services and access to permanent housing, and more. Looking forward to our partnership with LIHI to get this village built and started and to getting our unhoused neighbors out of the rain and cold!”
