It’s Courtney’s wedding day, and her mom, Delia, is making sure that everything is perfect. The groom is perfect, the dress is perfect, and the decorations (assuming they arrive) will be perfect. Then, like in any good farce the doorbell rings. And all hell breaks loose. So much for perfect.

DPS Dramatists Play Service, Inc. states the following:

“There’s more than a touch of Neil Simon in the morose Mr. Black.” —The New York Times.

“If you think of Lewis Black solely as a curmudgeonly comedian whose default setting is a state of apoplexy at the imbecility of his fellow man, you might be surprised by ONE SLIGHT HITCH. It’s not unexpected that HITCH should abound in snappy wisecracks and keen social observation. Those, after all, are hallmarks of Black’s stand-up act and his appearances on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. But what is that we detect on Black’s sleeve at the end of his play? Is that his…heart?” —Boston Globe

"If sustained laughter is the best measure of a comedy, ONE SLIGHT HITCH makes the grade." - Asbury Park Press

Actors in Order of Appearance

Lee Rush (Delia) - Lee is happily making her debut with The Arctic Playhouse at the new location, after a 4+ year hiatus from acting. Lee is a 30+ year veteran of stage and film and has directed more plays than some of her co-stars have lived in years on this earth. Lee has applied her creative energies to voice work since the pandemic. She lovingly dedicates this performance and her return to the stage to her dearly departed friend Bill, who loved to make people laugh.

Paul Oliver (Doc) - Paul is very happy to be doing his first show at The Arctic Playhouse. He has been acting locally for the past three decades. Some recent roles include Glenn, in Wonder of the World; Chet Jr, The Viewing Room; Ben, The Normal Heart; and Richard, The Lion in Winter.

Malari Martin (Courtney) - Malari (Mal-uh-ree) is thrilled to be playing Courtney in her first production at The Arctic Playhouse! A native of Warwick, she holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Her next project will be playing Audrey II in “Little Shop of Horrors” with The Academy Players in Providence. Malari is grateful to be back on stage again, especially with such a wonderfully talented cast and production team. She is forever thankful for the endless love and support of her parents, Don and Trish; and her husband, Ben.

Julia Curtin (Melanie) - Julia is delighted to be making her Arctic Playhouse debut! Some of her recent credits include Maryanne in When We Were Young and Unafraid and Lydia in The Wickham’s: Christmas at Pemberly with the players at Barker Playhouse, as well as Olivia in Twelfth Night with Dream Role Players, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing with Roundabout Productions, and Suzie in The Ruby Sunrise at Contemporary Theater Company. She is so grateful to be working with both old friends and new on this production, and hopes you have as much fun watching it as she has had being a part of it.

Addison Magiera (P.B.) - Addison is excited to be back performing at The Arctic Playhouse (TAP) for a second time. She has just begun her freshman year at Coventry High School. She loves all aspects of theatre whether she’s onstage, backstage, or in the audience! In 2022, in her TAP debut, she played Susan Walker in Miracle on 34th Street. This is where she fell in love with this theatre family and continues to support TAP through her volunteering efforts in concessions and ushering. Outside of TAP, she has performed in many shows, with various theatre companies, most recently Seussical Jr. with Rhode Island Youth Theatre, Footloose: Youth Edition with the ASFMS Drama Club, and Mean Girls with When I Grow Up Theatre. Addison is extremely honored to be a part of this production, and hopes the audience has as much fun watching One Slight Hitch as she has performing in it!

Johnny Bender (Ryan) - Johnny is from the great state of Ohio and is totally jazzed to be in a play about his home state. If you ever find yourself out that way, he highly recommends you visit Cedar Point, the greatest amusement park in the world. It is roller coaster heaven, baby! If that’s not your speed, go tour the Metroparks - over 500 miles and 50,000 acres of nature trails, parks, bike paths, zoos, horseback riding, skiing, nature reservations, swimming, rock climbing, and lots more. If it is an outdoor activity, you can find it in the Metroparks, up to and including horse drawn sleigh rides in the winter (Men - take note! It is romantic as all get out and the lovely lady in your life will appreciate it! You’re welcome for the tip!). However, as much as he loves Ohio, his dearest Dawn is out here and so is he.

Daniel J. Holmes (Harper) - Dan has appeared at The Arctic Playhouse once or twice before, (typically sporting an accent - or, for his most recent appearance in The Brothers Grimm, a series of 14 different accents and character voices). In addition to acting, Holmes has recently started writing for the stage, with credits here at The Arctic Playhouse and at the Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket. His academic work has explored topics ranging from horror literature to the religious history of Rhode Island, with an upcoming publication (August 2023) tracing the influence of local author HP Lovecraft on electronic gaming. Big thanks to everyone in the Arctic community - castmates, volunteers, and (of course) our lovely audience members!

Kevin Thibault (Director) - Kevin is happy to be directing his first show here at The Arctic Playhouse. He previously directed Moon Over Buffalo for The Community Players in Pawtucket and Avenue Q for The Players at Barker Playhouse in Providence. You may have also seen him in previous shows at The Arctic Playhouse, The Game's Afoot as Simon and Crimes of the Heart as Barnette.

Vicki Yates (Stage Manager) - Vicki is excited to be starting her 19th production as a Stage Manager for The Arctic Playhouse. Recent Credits Include: Crimes of the Heart, And Then There Were None, Miracle on the 34th Street, The Games Afoot, 39 Steps, Bedroom Farce, Noises Off, and Exit Laughing. Vicki also assists with event production and stage managing for many community organizations and events. At times, Vicki puts her creative skills to the test by designing props and helping our set team with painting and detail work. Ms. Yates also serves as the House Stage Manager and the Assistant Technical Director to The Arctic Playhouse. In this role, Vicki assists with ensuring the success of all productions put on by The Arctic Playhouse. In her “daytime” job, Vicki is a MET Team Supervisor at The Home Depot. Vicki is delighted to be a part of this amazing production of One Slight Hitch. She is grateful to Kevin for trusting and supporting her. Vicki would also like to thank her husband Michael and daughter Makayla for their continued support

"The Arctic Playhouse is absolutely the BEST at what they do, which is to bring live theater at affordable ticket prices. From the moment you enter, you are greeted by a warm and welcoming staff. The decor has little touches that set the Playhouse apart from sterile venues - candle, fresh flowers on the tables in the lounge and play-themed drink menus served at the bar. Add to that free coffee, fresh-baked cookies and popcorn. I cannot say enough about the caliber of the actors, directors and stage crafters. Plays are either nostalgic, thought-provoking or side-splitting funny. They do it all!" - Lorraine Lombardi

" My wife and I are returning fans for past 2 years. Affordable local theater at its best. Clearly the staff and actors are clearly having great fun and love their "work". - John Conte

" This was my first time there, but I was so impressed by the actors/actresses professionalism! I saw "Exit Laughing" and laughed so hard throughout the whole play. The props were simple but realistic. For anyone who loves plays, this is definitely a fun and affordable night out. 9/15/23 - they added new chairs (so much more comfortable than the old ones!) They also put in risers so the customers sitting in the back are able to see over those in the front rows. I saw "Don't Dress for Dinner" tonight and couldn't stop laughing! Can't wait to see the next one! - Janice Cook

"My husband (Ken) and I (Susan) just went to see Noises Off with another couple. What a fantastic show and venue to see a show. The playhouse looks so nice inside. The entire evening was relaxing, welcoming and entertaining. Very well-organized, great acting ..just fantastic venue. All four us will be back again." - Kenneth Gebhardt

"Such a great, talented group of people in every different performance! Looking forward to more excellent productions!" - Cheryl Olson

"A 100-seat theater is located in downtown West Warwick. The show we saw was the play* the Games Afoot, or Holmes for the holidays.* very nice performance. Before the show and during intermission, there is a great bar available. Also, free popcorn, coffee, and cookies. Lots of free parking available." - Anita Maguire

"Everything was wonderful! Beautiful theater and beautiful people! Everyone was so welcoming and professional. Tonight was our first time at this theater, and my father and I both said we cannot wait to come again. We will try to get tickets to every show we can - and I can't wait to bring my friends, too!

Every actor did an amazing job tonight. I was blown away by the talent. And the stage and set were top-notch. I felt like I was in the performance. Bravo. Thanks for a fantastic night." - Amanda Martino

"Just saw Brothers Grimm , amazing show . The actors were amazing but Tony was so hilarious in all his roles, what a gem . I have seen many shows at TAP all have been amazing but this one was by far my favorite, wish I could see it again lol . Glad to have this nice theater so close to my house . Thank you for putting on such great shows, and being a great part of our community." - Elizabeth Tetreault

"This small theater is nice the show we watched was wonderful. i would watch it over and over again. they have free popcorn and cookies. the staff are so great and friendly. i have never experienced that kind of atmosphere - Emerlita Salvacion

"Just saw mentalist Lon Cerel. Free popcorn, coffee, and fresh baked cookies. Exceedingly warm and welcome staff...amazing show. This is a hidden gem. I almost don't want anyone else to know!!! Looking forward to years of more performances." - Kim Fonseca Cordeiro

"I attended "Bedroom Farce" at the Playhouse and was treated to a hilarious and well-acted comedy. "Bedroom Farce" pokes fun at four modern marriages with a cast of seasoned characters; it does not disappoint!! You will laugh at the insanely creative, outrageous script, and characters' innuendos. It was my first visit and I WILL be back. It was a pleasure to meet one of the founders, and to talk with the very friendly members and volunteer staff. They love what they do, and it shows! Go see the show and experience a lighthearted evening." Leslie Montagne

"The actors are wonderful, you are always warmly greeted, & the music goes with the script. I love all the plays I've seen there. Truly a gem!." - Jean Choquette-McMahon

"Every show I have seen has been amazing. I love the plays and REALLY love the cabarets each month. I am looking forward to next year's season!!" - Shae Conlin-Grey

"West Warwick’s best asset is this theater. Providing easy access to the arts in a family friendly way so close to home is something everyone needs!" - Sami Gobin

"Awesome community theatre and cabaret with a caring and friendly staff! Great bar with specialty drinks cleverly named after each production. It's a real gem in West Warwick. Highly recommended if you are looking for a fun and reasonably-priced night out!" - Robin Leone

"My husband and I love The Arctic Playhouse. The people are friendly, free popcorn , coffee, a delicious chocolate cookie. Great shows . Ida is awesome. A great place to go to just enjoy the theater. I recommend The Arctic Playhouse." - Elaine Ferguson
