In John 14:16-18, Jesus told His disciples that He was going to leave them, but He would not leave them without divine assistance. Verse 16 says, "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever." Thank God, the Holy Spirit is here to give us the assistance we need to live the God-kind of life. Today we are going to discover the purpose of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. God is a triune being and each person in the Godhead has a unique purpose.

THE FATHER : His purpose is to initiate or originate life. Everything God the Father initiated and originated is created for His purpose.

JESUS: Jesus came to seek and save the lost. His main goal and purpose was to die for humanity. He came to bridge the gap between God and man, and He now serves as the mediator between God and men.

THE HOLY SPIRIT: The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to give divine assistance to believers as they fulfill their God-given purpose in Jesus Christ. We cannot be successful long term without the help of the Holy Spirit.

Before Jesus left this earth, He promised to maintain His presence amongst us through the agency of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit would continue the ministry of Jesus Christ through believers who are filled with His Spirit. Before His disciples went out to accomplish the mission Jesus gave them, He told them to wait until they were filled with the Holy Spirit. They could do nothing without the involvement of the Holy Spirit.

I'm writing today to let you know that YOU NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKING IN YOUR LIFE! Jesus left, but He prayed that the Father would send another Helper. With the assistance of the Holy Spirit, the believers could duplicate and multiply the works and ministry of Jesus. You see, He was confined to one geographical location at a time. However, the Holy Spirit can carry on with the ministry of Jesus through believers throughout the world.

Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth. We cannot be in error when the Holy Spirit is in us, because He is our teacher, instructor, and guide. Jesus also said that the Holy Spirit is to dwell in believers. When we have the Holy Spirit inside of us, we cannot and will not remain the same. With the Holy Spirit in us, we don't have to do Christianity by ourselves.

Today we will explore together:  "The Ministry of the Holy Spirit and His Divine Connection to Us."

Remember:   Spiritual Success  begins on Sunday Morning!

The Holy Spirit is mentioned just over 100 times in the Old Testament and over 250 times in the New Testament. The Holy Spirit had a different function in the Old Testament than He does in the New Testament.

  • The Holy Spirit came upon people in the Old Testament for a specific service (example, Samson in the book of Judges). He did not have an abiding presence with anyone in the Old Testament. He was only a temporary engagement.
  •  In the Old Testament, the Spirit of God came upon people to use them as an instrument to fulfill a specific purpose. In the New Testament, the ministry of the Holy Spirit is based upon an indwelling relationship.
  • In the Old Testament, the relationship with the Holy Spirit was based on TEMPORARY MANIFESTATIONS. In the New Testament, we can experience a PERMANENT RELATIONSHIP with the Holy Spirit.

Are churches growing today because of fleshly manifestations or as a result of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit? The book of Acts is the blueprint and the pattern for the church. The Scripture says the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. We need God's abiding presence because THINGS CAN HAPPEN IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN ANYWHERE ELSE ON THIS HUMAN PLANET. The Holy Spirit is here, not to entertain us, but to transform us.

The religious world wants us to believe that the Holy Spirit is nothing more than a symbol or an emotional experience. Neither of these will cause any significant change in the life of an individual. A symbol has no feelings and cannot speak. Emotional experiences are limited to temporary events. In reality the Holy Spirit is God extending Himself to us through personal interaction and through a person-to-person relationship.

If we are going to enjoy the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit,
we must come to know Him as a person.

REMEMBER: The Holy Spirit is a person with a personality.

The Holy Spirit has all the components of a personality, including His understanding. He has a will, affections, and integrity. In fact, He has complete knowledge and understanding. 1 Corinthians 2:11-12 tells us that we have received the Spirit of God that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to be in control of our destiny.

One important aspect of the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit:
THE HOLY SPIRIT DIVIDES TO US SPIRITUAL GIFTS.

All of these gifts are available to the church to help us in our everyday lives. 1 Corinthians 12:11 (Amplified) says, " All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses." The Holy Spirit will help us in our everyday lives as we tap into His ability within us. It is dangerous to live on this planet without the influence of the Holy Spirit.

REMEMBER:
The Holy Spirit is the affection and the love of God. Romans 5:5 says that the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. He helps us to love unlovable people so that God can work through us to minister to them.

I pray that we all can become more conscious of the Holy Spirit in our lives today.
