Happy New Year!
DISTRICT MISSION: The mission of the Cedarburg School District is to provide an exemplary education that challenges students in a nurturing environment to develop into lifelong learners, to become responsible adults, and to achieve their goals and dreams.
New Year Brings a Renewed Focus
While 2020 was certainly filled with challenges, the year also offered opportunities to find joy in new places. We can't say thank you enough for your support, especially this past year. As we enter the second semester, we continue to take a measured approach in making adjustments to our school schedules and programs. As we reflect on the first semester and consume the latest information and research on Covid, we want to use our experiences and research to improve our services and environment. Our goal is to inch back to a more normal environment, which we have been yearning for since last March.

Not only is my focus on creating a normal environment, as circumstances permit, but my focus is also on next year. Our normal school prep for next year is underway. Among the areas we are working on include identifying elementary sections, projecting enrollments, building the budget, and finalizing the calendar. I am optimistic that with the new year comes a renewed focus on working harder to recapture all the elements of a typical school year. Thank you for supporting our efforts and taking personal responsibility for what’s in your control to get us back to a place where our entire community can enjoy all that we have to offer. We are looking forward to 2021 with a renewed sense of optimism and wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year!

Testing and Review of CSD Quarantine Guidelines
COVID Testing Site

Washington and Ozaukee Counties have partnered with Curative, Inc. to provide free COVID-19 testing at Washington County Fair Park and Ozaukee County Fairgrounds. Testing is performed via an oral swab and results are texted or e-mailed usually within 48 hours. However, due to delays, results may occasionally take up to 72 hours.

Testing is offered from 8AM - 4PM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 10AM - 6PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays at both locations. Residents will need to register ahead of time in order to guarantee a test and bring along their photo ID. and insurance card. Testing is free with no out-of-pocket costs, and individuals without insurance will not be turned away. Appointments can be scheduled online through Curative’s website: www.curative.com
Without testing: Anyone deemed a close contact will need to quarantine at home for 10 days versus the previously required 14 days. Quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring. However, it is important to note that it is expected that both staff and students will continue to monitor for symptoms for the full 14 days after exposure. Should any symptoms develop on or after day 10 through day 14, it is expected that both staff and students will report those symptoms to their designated school buildings, remain isolated at home while symptoms are present, and reach out to their health care provider to inquire about COVID-19 testing.
With testing: If a close contact undergoes testing for COVID-19, and no symptoms have developed during the daily monitoring period, quarantine can end after Day 7 of quarantine if the PCR or Rapid-antigen test yields a negative test result and those results are verified by the health room staff. However, please note, the test may not be performed any earlier than quarantine Day 6, and one may not end quarantine until the test results have come back confirming a negative result. Moreover, it is expected that both staff and students will continue to monitor for symptoms for the full 14 days after exposure. Should any symptoms develop on or after day 7 through day 14, it is expected that both staff and students will report those symptoms to their designated school buildings, remain isolated at home while symptoms are present, and reach out to their health care provider to inquire about COVID-19 testing.
Quarantine Gold Standard

Per the CDC and DHS, the 14-day quarantine period continues to be the preferred length of quarantine, as symptoms may develop as late as day 14. For this reason, it is very important that one continues to monitor for any symptoms for the entire 14 days post-exposure date, even if one has already exited quarantine.
The implications of these changes mean that anyone who meets the above criteria that is currently quarantined can return to school. Additionally, all staff and students will not be able to return to school or any extracurricular activities until all 7 or 10 days of quarantine have been completed. This means that individuals that test out of quarantine (scenario b. above) may resume in-person instruction and extracurricular activities on Day 8; and for those individuals quarantining for 10 days (scenario a. above), will be allowed to return to in-person instruction and extracurricular activities on Day 11. Specific questions regarding these guidelines can be addressed with our district nurse or your building principal.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
To honor the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr., students in Cedarburg School District will be learning and engaging in a variety of activities designed to bring a more in-depth understanding of the importance of MLK's life and his message upon our lives today.
Student will receive instruction on MLK through the following:
  • Morning announcements and holiday proclamation
  • Digitally recorded content, related to national trailblazers like MLK
  • Read alouds
  • Songs and poetry reading
  • STEM opportunities
  • School-wide celebration for Black History month
  • Book displays in our libraries honoring individuals who made a difference like MLK Jr.
CHS Distinguished Alumni Nominations
The strengthening of a network of alumni accelerates opportunities to enhance the collective impact on our entire Cedarburg School District family. Two years ago at the Cedarburg High School graduation, we launched the "Distinguished Alumni" Recognition Award, honoring a Distinguished Alumni as part of the ceremony. Our first recipient in 2019 was the late Dr. Kenneth H. “Nicky” Oberheu, heart surgeon and founder of the CHS Golden Bulldogs Alumni Association, and this summer, the 2020 recipient was Paul Clement, former Solicitor General of the United States.

In recognizing an alumnus or alumna each year, the intent of the Distinguished Alumni Recognition Award is to establish a tradition that honors CHS graduates who have gone on to distinguished careers and service in various fields making major contributions; achieving noteworthy accomplishments that separate themselves from others.

The Cedarburg School District is proud to honor the graduates of CHS and is now open to accept nominations for the 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award. Note: Nominations submitted last year will still be considered this coming year and do not need to be resubmitted.
