Board of Education Regular Meeting on May 9
The Tuesday, May 9, Board of Education Regular Meeting included an update on the District’s long-term facilities planning process. Highlights from the update include:
- The District has released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) soliciting architectural firms for the Ludlow project. The process will culminate with the selection of architectural firms, who will then submit proposals in response to a Request for Proposals (RFP). The District plans to award an architectural contract by mid-July.
- The District has filled the role of the Early Childhood Coordinator. Ms. Dejunee Lawson will join the District beginning July 1. Ms. Lawson is trained in the International Baccalaureate Programme, has a background as a preschool teacher and is currently an assistant principal at Tremont Montessori where she oversees 120 preschool students.

Treasurer Bryan Christman presented updated bond scenarios based on updated numbers from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC). The document may be viewed here.

Board of Education Special Meeting on May 22
The Shaker Heights Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 22, in the High School small auditorium. The Board will vote on the OFCC Master Plan Resolution at this meeting. This session will be open to the public to attend in person and will also be livestreamed at shaker.org/boardlive and via Boxcast.
The District’s long-term facilities plan includes:
- Segment 1
- Renovate Ludlow to accommodate expanded PreK program
- Renovate and expand Woodbury as a Middle Years Building (Grades 6-8)
- Renovate Boulevard, Lomond, Mercer and Onaway and convert elementary school buildings to include Grade 5
- Build addition to Fernway to accommodate Grade 5
- Segment 2
- Build new High School near current campus site
