Give Your Feedback on Design Priorities for the Woodbury Building

Please take a moment to complete this brief survey to help Shaker Heights Schools and our architectural design partners gather feedback from community, families and staff as we enter the initial design of the Woodbury building renovation. Additional opportunities for feedback will be available as the process continues.

District Breaks Ground for Modular Classrooms

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, the District broke ground to place two temporary modular units at Shaker Heights Middle School. Each modular unit will contain multiple classrooms to accommodate students and staff during the renovation and transformation of Woodbury Elementary School into a Middle Years Building.

Ludlow Project Goes to Architectural Board of Review

On May 20, 2024, the GPD Group presented preliminary plans for the Ludlow school building entrance to the City’s Architectural Board of Review (ABR). While the plan was generally well-received, the ABR made a variety of comments and recommendations to the architects, including:

  • The new entry addition facade should be studied to better relate to the existing building.
  • The steps should be reconsidered to lower the rise for pre-school age children.
  • The masonry wall around the ramp is too tall and should be more open to a view of the street.
  • The proposed window grid pattern should coordinate with the existing pattern.
  • Arch top form used in the design of the entrance should match existing arch top form designs.

Additionally, the ABR shared letters it received from the community about the Ludlow project. GPD plans to return to the ABR's June 17 and July 1 meeting to address changes.

Construction Opportunity Fair Attracts More Than 60 Prospective Vendors

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, a Construction Opportunity Fair for the Ludlow School Improvement Project attracted more than 60 prospective vendors. The event was hosted by the District, Gilbane Building Co., the GPD Group and the Eull Group and included an overview of the project, the bid package plan, the prequalification process, the economic inclusion goals and small business/diversity teaming opportunities.

Bid packages include areas such as concrete, masonry, demolition/abatement, surveying, drywall, painting, tile, flooring, playground equipment, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, elevator, fire protects and kitchen equipment.
