GPD Meets with Architectural Board of Review
On July 1, 2024, the GPD Group made its second presentation of preliminary plans for the Ludlow school building entrance to the City’s Architectural Board of Review (ABR). GPD first presented the plans to the ABR on June 3, 2024. To see the front entry and northwest playground entry renderings presented, click here. The ABR offered additional comments and recommendations to the architects, who will use the feedback to continue to refine the plan.
GPD, District Meet with Board of Zoning Appeals
On July 2, 2024, the Board of Zoning Appeals & City Planning Commission held a public hearing on the District's request for variances to relocate and expand the playground and enclose Dumpsters and a generator as part of the renovation of Ludlow School into a preschool center. The Board also listened to the District’s plans to upgrade the parking lot at the school. Aaron Rodebaugh of the GPD Group, the architects on the project, and the District’s Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Jeffrey Grosse, represented the District. The District will return to the Board of Zoning Appeals with additional information about the project.
Facilities Highlights from the July 2 Board of Education Meeting
Superintendent Dr. David Glasner and Assistant Superintendent of Operations Jeffrey Grosse gave an update to the Board of Education about the Ludlow and Woodbury projects. Mr. Grosse shared a timeline of project updates, discussed the Architectural Board of Review meeting and shared other updates. The Board also discussed community engagement plans for the Ludlow and Woodbury projects. Watch the Board meeting here.
Middle School Academic Programming Kickoff
On July 1, 2024, District's Teaching & Learning Department leaders met with representatives from the GPD Group and R.P. Madison, the architects for the Master Facilities Project, to discuss how new space at the renovated Middle Grades Building can best align with academic programming needs. The discussion included topics such as accommodating team teaching and the District’s International Baccalaureate framework into the design of the building. In the coming months, the architects plan to hold an educational visioning workshop to gather feedback and ideas from staff, students and families. On June 24, 2024, the District and architects held a similar meeting to discuss design of the Middle Grades Building’s swimming pool and gymnasium needs. It was agreed that the building will require a competition-level pool and two gymnasiums.
District Releases RFPs Addressing Middle School Management, Preschool Planning & Engagement
The District is seeking consultants to assist with planning for the renovated Middle Grades Building, and with management and engagement around the preschool expansion project. The first request for proposal (RFP) seeks a consultant to help revitalize and realign the learning landscape for students when the renovated Middle Grades Building is opened. The RFP does not seek expertise for the physical design of the building, but rather the middle grades experience for students, faculty and staff. This includes topics such as structure and schedules at the building. The second RFP seeks a consultant to develop and implement a program expansion plan and timeline along with a comprehensive engagement campaign focused on reaching families in underserved areas of the community. Additionally, the District is seeking a vendor that can support recruitment of a high-quality teaching and support staff. Both RFPs are to be submitted no later than July 31, 2024. District to Host Master Plan Ecosystem Partners and Stakeholders Meeting
On July 10, 2024, the District and the Euell Group will host an invitation-only meeting of potential inclusion ecosystem partners to discuss opportunities, needs and strategies related to the District’s Master Facilities Plan project. Invitees include the Hispanic Center for Economic Development, the Black Contractors Group Inc., the Spanish American Committee, the National Association of Minority Contractors, the Equal Opportunity Division of the City of Cleveland, the Cleveland Urban League, the Construction Employees Association, the Ohio Minority Business Division as well as Shaker Heights and Cuyahoga County officials.
