Music Instruction Changes Beginning in 2024-2025
The current plan for K-8 music instruction for the 2024-2025 school year is as follows:
- Current elementary teachers will integrate instrument introductions in Grades 4 and 5. Instruments tentatively include: flute, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, violin, viola and cello. Instruments will be taught one-at-a-time.
- Choir will be introduced as an option for sixth graders (currently, students can select choir starting in seventh grade). Current fifth graders will choose between choir, band and orchestra for their sixth grade music instruction.
- Starting in the 2024-2025 school year, Middle School students will have daily music instruction beginning in sixth grade.
Rising Grades 6 & 7 Families: Information Nights
Shaker Heights Middle School will welcome Rising Grades 6 & 7 Families on the following nights:
- Rising Grade 7 Information Night: 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 5
- Rising Grade 6 Information Night: 6 p.m., Thursday, March 7
While students are welcome to attend, please know that these evenings will be adult-focused events rather than an orientation. It will also be one of many opportunities available to learn about the Middle School and what to expect for next school year. Students will have an opportunity to visit the Middle School during the school day this year and a comprehensive orientation will be planned for students in the fall.
Resolution of Acceptance
On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the Board of Education will be asked to approve a resolution of acceptance of the state’s conditional approval of the District’s Master Facilities Plan. Approval of this resolution will enable the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) to release the state share of funds to the District to help fund Segment 1 of the Masters Facilities Plan.
