Dear District 6 Residents,
Thank you Vice Mayor Steve Madison for a quarter century of service to our community! May 3 was the 25th anniversary of when he was sworn onto the Pasadena City Council. At this week’s District 6 Town Hall, we surprised him with a certificate from the City of Pasadena, certificates from local elected officials, and letters from colleagues.
Thank you as well to all of the speakers at the Town Hall for an in-depth and informative discussion on climate change and renewable energy technology: David Reyes, Steven Low, Will McNamara, Christopher Yeh, and Cynthia Cannady. Public Hearing on Changing Dayton St. to Troop Way Delayed | The public hearing where the City Council will consider whether to change the name of Dayton St. between Fair Oaks and Raymond avenues to Troop Way to honor a local R&B musical group has been delayed, so it will no longer be heard at the May 20 Council meeting. 710 Stub History Bike Tour 5/11 | Join Allen Edson, president of the NAACP Pasadena branch, as he leads a bike tour highlighting the 210 freeway, the 710 stub, and the community displaced by the construction tomorrow, Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., starting at 595 Lincoln Ave. Details for this weekend’s rides and all the events this month are at bit.ly/PasadenaBikeMonth. Ave. 64 Full Road Closure 5/11 & 5/12 | Phase 3 construction of Avenue 64 Complete Streets project continues at the intersection of Burleigh Drive along Avenue 64. A full street closure from Saturday, May 11, to Sunday, May 12 (if necessary), will be required as the transition between phases occurs. The newly constructed roundabout at the intersection of Burleigh Drive and Avenue 64 is mostly completed as part of the previous phases. There will be a new traffic pattern for the southbound traffic where it will loop around a newly constructed roundabout and the northbound traffic pattern will be unchanged. During construction one lane for each direction of traffic will be maintained however, please anticipate delays, and use alternate routes when possible. Cruel World Music Festival at the Rose Bowl 5/11 | The Cruel World Music Festival will be held at the Brookside Golf Course tomorrow, Saturday, May 11. Event Hours: 9-11 a.m. Sound Checks Sporadically; 9 a.m. Parking Lots Open; 10:30 a.m. Shuttle Operations Begin from Old Town Pasadena; 11:30 a.m. VIP and GA Doors Open on Brookside Golf Course; 11 p.m. Event & Amplified Sound Concludes Saturday & Sunday. Est. Attendance: 30,000. This event will include a full bowl closure to recreational users and bicycle traffic beginning at 3 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, and concluding at 12 a.m. on Monday, May 13. Streets will remain open for one lane of vehicle traffic. The Equestrian Trail will remain open at all times. The festival will have the typical impacts on the nearby neighborhoods including traffic and noise. | |

The noise level will be high, as expected, for the concerts and enhanced amplified music will take place from approximately 11:45 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. Sound checks are also expected to occur sporadically on Friday, May 10, between 12 p.m.-7 p.m., including event day on Saturday sporadically from 9-11 a.m. Due to the load-in, event operations and load-out, please note that Brookside Golf Course lighting will be on throughout much of the night from Thursday, May 9, to Monday, May 13. Planned Power Outages 5/13, 5/15, 5/17, & 5/29 | Please be aware that there will be Planned Power Outages conducted from 10 p.m.-4 a.m. on Monday, May 13, into Tuesday, May 14, and from 10:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, into Thursday, May 16, and from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, May 17, and from 10:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, into Thursday, May 30, by Pasadena Water and Power. Bike to Work Day will be held from 7-10 a.m. on Thursday, May 16. Visit the Bike to Work Day rest-stop at Pasadena City Hall to say hello and enjoy free refreshments to help fuel your ride, pick up some biking information, and enjoy other free goodies. Just Like Heaven Music Festival at the Rose Bowl 5/18 | The fourth annual Just Like Heaven music festival will be held at Brookside at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, May 18. The one-day event will feature performances by The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie, Phoenix, The War on Drugs, Miike Snow, Passion Pit, Alvvays, Two Door Cinema Club, Phantogram, Metric, Gossip, Tegan and Sara, Washed Out, and many more. Seat Belt Safety Campaign Runs 5/20-6/2 | For Memorial Day Weekend, the Pasadena Police Department reminds travelers to always buckle up and secure children in the right car seats when visiting friends and family. This year’s Click It or Ticket campaign runs from May 20 to June 2. During this time, the Pasadena Police Department will have additional officers on patrol actively looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt. Mayberry Parker Bridge Access Improvement Project Meeting 5/21 | Pasadena Public Works, in coordination with the One Arroyo Foundation, is proposing the Mayberry Parker Bridge Access Improvement Project, which will: 1) provide new pedestrian access to the historic Mayberry Parker Bridge, including placement of a steel pipe railing system onto the Bridge deck for safety and replacement a section of chain link fencing with tubular steel fencing; 2) rehabilitate existing trails to the north and south of the Bridge through stabilization (i.e. repair or replacement) of deteriorated trail segments, stairways, stone walls, and eroded slopes; and 3) provide a new high-visibility crosswalk between Desiderio Park and the Arroyo Seco at the Arroyo Blvd. and Westminster Dr. intersection. A meeting will be held to share information regarding the project from 5:30-7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 21, at La Casita Del Arroyo, 177 S. Arroyo Blvd. This meeting will be held to share information regarding the project, the environmental review process, and to receive written comments about the scope and content of the environmental analysis to be addressed in the Draft Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration. Older Americans Month Event 5/22 | The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, Senior Commission, and Pasadena Village will host the City’s third annual celebration of Older Americans Month on Wednesday, May 22, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Victory Park, 2575 Paloma St. The free event will highlight Pasadena’s array of resources for older adults and offer giveaways, food, presentations and much more! Linda Vista-Annandale Association Annual Meeting 5/23 | The Linda Vista-Annandale Association will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, May 23, at the Rose Bowl UCLA Locker Room. Parking is available adjacent to Main Gate A. From 5-6 p.m., there will be a Rose Bowl Open House. The field will be open for visits/play and there will be tours of the Rose Bowl California High School Hall of Fame. From 5:30-6 p.m., there will be a reception in the Locker Room with light snacks/appetizers and drinks. The program will be held from 6:15-8:30 p.m. and will include a discussion of the growing loss of local control as a result of ongoing California legislative mandates over major aspects of life in Pasadena such as single-family neighborhoods, housing matters, and planning and development. Unearthed: Public Reception for City of Pasadena Individual Artist Grant-Funded Program 5/25 | A public reception to launch Unearthed by Sarah Umles will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, at Supplyframe DesignLab Gallery, 30 E. Del Mar Blvd. Unearthed is an arts-based research project at the nexus of technology, media, consumerism, anthropocentrism, and land politics, part of Umles’ ongoing investigation into anthropogenic causes of environmental imbalance and the climate crisis, and their impacts on the Earth and its inhabitants. The exhibit is made possible in part by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division. Click here to read more. Public Hearing for Water Rate Structure and Adjustments 6/3 | Pasadena City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 3, at 5:30 p.m. to consider the adoption of adjustments to the existing water rates and rate structure. The public is encouraged to participate. Pasadena Water and Power is recommending a rate structure redesign and adjustment. PWP is committed to providing reliable and high-quality water to the community and is proposing the water rate adjustments to help cover rising operating costs and provide funding for critical improvements to water infrastructure. Wednesday, April 24, 6 p.m. on Zoom (RSVP here); Wednesday, May 1, 6:30 p.m. at Victory Park Recreation Center, 2575 Paloma St.; and Thursday, May 23, 2 p.m. at Robinson Park Recreation Center, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave. To help customers estimate potential impacts the proposed adjustments may have on their water bill, PWP developed an online “bill estimator,” which is a simplified version of all billing inputs (actual bills may vary). The intent is to provide customers with a general sense of how their budgets might be impacted based on individual projections of their water use. Water Main Installation on Bellefontaine Dr. Through June | Pasadena Water and Power is replacing a 110-year-old water main on Bellefontaine St. from S. Pasadena Ave. to Fair Oaks Ave. Construction has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of June. 710 Reconnecting Communities’ Oral History Project and Survey Through 6/30 | The City of Pasadena has begun the oral history component of the Historic Project for the City’s 710 Stub Master Plan. The oral history portion, one of three parts, aims to capture and acknowledge the diverse stories of community members displaced by the SR 710 Freeway (710) construction project. | |

Former residents and family members of those personally impacted by the 710 construction are invited to share their experience via an online oral history survey, which includes a Community Input Tool. The tool and survey are designed to capture data, stories, and lived experiences in an engaging manner. These stories and perspectives are important to compiling a comprehensive narrative of experiences from residents who were impacted by the construction of the 710. The City is committed to the inclusivity of its diverse community and understands that every story will contribute to the rich tapestry of the Historic Project’s oral history. 4th of July at the Rose Bowl Returns with Soccer, Fireworks, & Family Fun 7/4 | Cross-town rivals LA Galaxy and LAFC will return with a world-class soccer match to the Rose Bowl on Thursday, July 4. Books N' Cops Series Through 10/28 | The Pasadena Library and the Pasadena Police Department are hosting a 10-month long, multi-event program series called “Books N' Cops.” The series brings together various divisions and representatives from Pasadena Police Department to a different Pasadena library branch through Monday, October 28. Throughout the series, community members can learn specifics about policing, meet officers, and connect with law enforcement. Community members of all ages are invited to attend, learn, play, and discover together. All events are free, and most do not require registration.
