Find out more about the new South Davis Walnut Park Library

Supervisor Provenza and District 4 staff have been working closely with the Yolo County Library staff, the City of Davis, Supervisor Frerichs' District 2 Office, and more to keep the South Davis Walnut Park Library project moving forward!

We are excited to announce that on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023, all of the collaborators for the future South Davis Library will be joining together to host an information session at the Marguerite Montgomery Elementary School Multipurpose Room (1441 Danbury St, Davis, CA 95618) from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

This update and community meeting will include a presentation detailing the latest developments for the project, a look at the preliminary design of the library, and an open forum to have any of your questions about the library project answered. There will also be pizza and refreshments served thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Davis Public Library and children's activities will be available at the school library while the meeting is happening.

In the meantime, the Yolo County Library has launched a page on their website for the new location where the latest updates about the project can be found! You can visit this new page at: https://yolocountylibrary.org/daviswalnutparklibrary/

Davis Community Rallies To Welcome Everyone

On Tuesday, October 10th, hundreds of members of our Yolo County community came together in Davis' Central Park to spread a message of welcoming and unity. Supervisor Provenza joined with other elected leaders including Speaker Pro Tempore of the California State Assembly Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Supervisor Lucas Frerichs, Mayor Will Arnold, and Councilmember Gloria Partida to remind our community that Davis and Yolo County are places where everyone is welcome, regardless of race, religion, gender orientation, or any other identity category.

This community rally came at a time where there are sizeable portions of the Davis and Yolo County communities who feel unwelcome or unsupported. Repeated bomb threats at the Davis Library and Davis Joint Unified School District have made many residents feel on edge. In addition, current political events both within our community and nationwide have deepened fractures and stoked divisions. This rally was a good opportunity to remind each other to be welcoming and supportive for the marginalized members of our community.

In addition to the rally, community organizers have put forth a letter from the residents and community leaders of Yolo County to affirm that our county is a welcoming place for everyone. You can view the letter at this link and you can join the growing list of over 1000 residents, elected leaders, and community organizations that have signed at this link.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month Resolution

Supervisor Provenza was glad to present a resolution recognizing the month of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to recognize the outstanding efforts of Thriving Pink to support those in our community who are diagnosed with breast cancer.

There are over 3.8 million women living in the United States with a history of breast cancer and 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed throughout the course of their lives. Thriving Pink works to make a positive impact on the lives of those who are diagnosed with the disease. They offer support groups and services, as well as financial assistance to those who are impacted by breast cancer.

The recent launch of the Thriving Pink ProspeROSA program showcases the group's dedication to helping those in need. The program focuses on reaching out to the Spanish speaking community and uplifts Latina survivors or "guerreras" who are still fighting breast cancer. Supervisor Provenza was proud to support this program with an American Rescue Plan "mini-grant."

Supervisor Provenza was joined by Thriving Pink Board Chair Joni Rubin, as well as breast cancer survivor Maria Del Rio and Thriving Pink Executive Director Leslie Hunter. He is always glad to partner with Thriving Pink and deeply appreciates the excellent work the nonprofit does for our community.
