The newly installed exhibition, Winston Churchill: A Passion for Painting, showcases seven original oil paintings by Winston Churchill, including the historically significant canvas, Firth of Forth, a recent gift to the Museum. The work was created circa 1925 in east Scotland, where the River Forth meets the North Sea near Edinburgh.

The exhibition also includes two newly installed Churchill paintings placed on extended loan: Leaning Palm, Jamaica, which was painted in 1953 when Churchill visited the Caribbean island with his wife, Clementine, and the couple's youngest daughter, Mary, during his second term as Prime Minister.

The other newly added painting ― which since the 1960s has been titled "Distant View of Venice" and believed to be a view of the famous Italian city ― will be shown under a new title: A View of Miami at Sunset. New research by artist and Churchill painting expert Paul Rafferty reveals that Churchill painted this remarkable canvas in Miami Beach, where he spent most of January and February, 1946, before traveling to Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, to deliver his "Iron Curtain" speech on March 5. Westminster College President

Donald P. Lofe, Jr. Leadership Assured

Citing a number of positive and significant changes taking place relatively quickly at Westminster College under the current president’s leadership, Board Chairperson James C. Morton, Jr., announced Lofe’s contract has been extended through June 30, 2027. This extension also has an option for Lofe to continue in his roles potentially through June 30, 2028.

Morton, who also serves as an ex-officio member of The Board of Governors of the Association of Churchill Fellows, emphasized the decision was unanimously approved by Westminster’s Board of Trustees.

“Collectively, the Board feels Westminster is witnessing steady fiscal and operational success under President Lofe’s leadership,” Morton explained. “The inroads being made at the College are taking place on a number of levels, particularly with regard to enrollment and retention initiatives, new programs, alumni relations, institutional advancement, and various aspects of America’s National Churchill Museum.”

For his deep and lasting commitment to America's National Churchill Museum, President Lofe was inducted into the Association of Churchill Fellows in October, 2022.  READ MORE
