'SI TI ME BESAS' VICTOR MANUELLE'S NEW SINGLE HITS #1 ON BILLBOARD MAGAZINE'S TROPICAL MUSIC CHART
The new year began with great news for singer/songwriter and producer Victor Manuelle. This week his new single titled "Si tu me besas" (If You Kiss Me) occupies the #1 spot on the Tropical Airplay Chart in Billboard Magazine and reaches an impressive #20 on the prestigious overall chart. "Si tu me besas" is the first cut off his upcoming album, Busco Un Pueblo, set to be released on January 24th. The sound on this new CD is a result of Victor's musical experiences during his travels all over Latin America and the United States. He used this vibe as the guide and reference to make some adjustments to the genre that has made him a household name in the tropical music scene. "Si Tu Me Besas" is a vivid example of that. VICTOR CRUZ WON'T DANCE WITH THE STARS; ITS ALL FOR THE NEW YORK GIANTS
Earlier this week, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz received an invitation to join Dancing with the Stars for its new season in March.
In his second NFL season, Cruz is a big reason why his Giants have surprised many with a 9-7 record this year, good enough dance their way into the playoffs. He leads all receivers on his team with 82 catches for 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns, and each trip to the end zone capped off by a salsa dance celebration. He admits that his dance steps to celebrate six points caught the attention of the reality show, but for now he's content to keep his salsa to the highlight reel. "I'm not going to do it, I chose to decline it because I don't feel like I'm at the point of my career where I can do something like that," Cruz told Yahoo! Sports. "I'm focused on football; focused on my family right now." Click here for more.

Concert impresario Ralph Mercado III is bringing the name Babalu back to New York City fine dining. On Thursday, January 19, 2012 Mercado is launching a new indoor/outdoor restaurant venture, named after the Hell's Kitchen restaurant and lounge owned by his father, Latin music industry legend Ralph Mercado, at 3233 East Tremont Avenue in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx. More than just sharing its name, Mercado's new Babalu embodies the spirit of its namesake, which grew to be a pivotal cornerstone for Latinos in the early part of the 21st Century, bringing not only Latin cuisine but also live music, poetry readings, off-Broadway shows and other cultural touchstones to New York City. NOTCHRemember the days when you could count on the late Celia Cruz NOT remixing La Vida es un Carnaval over a reggaeton beat? Probably not! In the last decade we've become accustomed to Latin genre breakers, Pitbull, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony crossing over to Pop from Latin and everything in between. These artists have been successful at taking musical risks we as listeners take for granted. To remain relevant in this day and age, artists incorporate R&B, pop, Latin, and hip hop into their sound. But it wasn't too long ago that artists didn't genre hop, but instead they would dig their heels into their decided musical destiny and rarely venture into unchartered waters. Then came along artists like Notch who dared to break Latin music boundaries by infusing his music with sounds outside of the genre. Calling upon his multicultural background, Notch created and continues to construct a bricolage of sound mixing reggae, Latin, and pop. When asked to describe himself as an artist, Notch puts it best, "I'm a classy crooner, a fusion-ista. Like a young Harry Belafonte!" Visit www.urbanlatino.com to read more! ____________________
