Sri Lanka Update

Sri Lanka is undergoing an economic crisis due to a shortage of hard currency to pay for imports. While there are power cuts and queues outside fuel stations at the moment, they expect regular supply to be restored soon. The tourism industry is given preference given its importance to the economy.

EMERGING FROM COVID USING DATA AND TECHNOLOGY

Virtual reality can help travelers virtually “see” a place, which can “create the emotive drive to see it for real.

NY PATA member, Travel World VR is the only VR company in the travel space run by successful travel industry executives, Steve Perillo and John Graham, who know what travel suppliers need to effectively market travel.

More complex applications go beyond VR and into a more interactive engagement with consumers in the metaverse.

Happy Songkran

In many countries in Southeast Asia, such as Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, the arrival of spring also marks the beginning of the new year. Songkran, as the festival welcoming in the new year is called in Thai, is often celebrated with playful water fights on city streets over the course of three chaotic days. The first day of the festival is a big celebration with processions of Buddha images taking place all over the country.

Over these days, cities turn into playful battlegrounds. Children emerge armed from their houses and bands of revelers gather on the sides of the roads ready to waylay passersby.
