10-16-12 SWFloridaGuy: This post is in response to a persisting rumor that a RV of the IQD (or any other currency) is more likely to happen on a Wednesday as opposed to other days of the week. In my opinion there is no basis for this rumor and my research shows it to be completely inaccurate.
The same "RV day" claim has also been made many times about Fridays. A large currency appreciation event is when the nominal effective exchange rate is revalued by at least 10% or more relative to the previous average level and not only includes the one-time step revaluation, but also a number of smaller appreciation steps that happen within a short time window.

Foreign Policy ran a piece a few days ago examining the question "Is Iraq an Iranian proxy?" that was most interesting for one of its co-authors: Safa al-Sheikh, the acting national security adviser to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
While Mr. Sheikh is frequently described as a technocrat, he has nevertheless advised Mr. Maliki on security policy for years now, at precisely the time that Iraq has strengthened its ties with Iran and distanced itself from the US (you may remember that Maliki kicked the US military out of Iraq last year). Iraq has uneasily supported Syria's Bashar al-Assad against the Sunni-dominated uprising against his regime. After all, a substantial chunk of the uprising is composed of Sunni jihadis hostile to Maliki's Shiite-dominated government.
So an opinion piece under his name about Iraq's relationship with Iran (co-authored with Emma Sky, a British national who worked in the occupation administration of Iraq and later as an adviser to the US military), is worth noting.
Iraq removes central bank head in corruption probe

BAGHDAD (AP) : Iraq abruptly removed the longtime governor of the country's central bank Tuesday after he and other bank officials were targeted in an investigation into alleged financial wrongdoing.
The governor, Sinan al-Shabibi, is seen as a politically independent economist who has led the bank since shortly after the U.S.-led invasion. He has not been charged with any crime, and his lawyer insists he is innocent.
The allegations, drawn up by a special parliamentary committee established to investigate the bank, could give new ammunition to critics of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki that the Iraqi leader is trying to consolidate control over the country's institutions.
Iraq's Cabinet voted Tuesday to temporarily replace al-Shabibi with Abdul-Basit Turki, the head of the Board of Supreme Audit, until the investigation is complete, according to Ali al-Moussawi, a spokesman for the prime minister.

Araji describes arrest warrant against CBI's Governor as "Immature"

Baghdad (AIN) : The head of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Baha al-Araji, described the arrest warrant against the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Sinan al-Shibibi, as "Immature", expecting that it was issued for "political purposes similar to the case with the former independent committees."
Speaking to All Iraq News Agency (AIN) on Tuesday, he said "The arrest warrant against Shibibi is real and exists, but we think that the procedures against the CBI are immature because Iraq witnesses a hard situation."
"The CBI is not less important than the Interior and Defense Ministries where it might affect the security situation in Iraq and result in the reduction of the Iraqi currency towards the foreign currencies," he added.

wcgillian said... there's already a lot of articles out there saying that the judge that issued a warrant has already been slapped down by his superiors. It doesn't look like this is anything to worry about at this time.
rvnow88 said... yeah, this must be an act of desperation on M's part. Amnesty law is being voted on tomorrow which I believe is tied to the infrastructure law and those two laws are the requirements from the UNSC to get out of CH7 and into CH8 which allows for a trade-able currency.
