Welcome to the DIGITAL DIGEST! This e-newsletter is full of information for our members including industry news, construction updates, community events, and updates from our leadership.
From the Brainerd Lakes Area to Washington D.C.

In November 2022, our CEO/General Manager, Kristi Westbrock, and Member Services Technician, Jeremy Przybilla headed to the White House in Washington D.C. to share information about careers in the broadband industry and to demonstrate how fiber strands are properly handled, spliced, and tested. This demonstration was part of the Talent Pipeline Challenge Expo.

The Talent Pipeline was introduced by the Biden-Harris Administration in mid-June 2022 and is a nationwide call to action for employers, education/training providers, and other entities to support workforce development in critical infrastructure sectors like broadband. The Expo highlighted the careers that will be impacted and created because of the federal government’s $65 billion investment in broadband via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that was signed into law in November 2021.

The funding of this law will support broadband infrastructure and offer programs to make internet access more affordable and accessible for families. This will also create thousands of new jobs in the broadband industry.

We were so honored to be able to display our knowledge and presence at this prestigious event!
CELLY-BRATING with our Community

CTC along with several other Brainerd area businesses helped design and create the ‘Celly Room’, which now resides in the Essentia Health Sports Center!

This room was built to host team meetings, parties, or events. The Celly Room features brand-new cabinets, countertops, a 75-inch television, tables, chairs, and more. The room has built-in WiFi and other amenities. The best part is the design mimics an ice rink! We hope this room can be utilized by many residents in the area for years to come!
Fiber Internet Construction Season - Coming Soon!

While this winter has felt never-ending, we are finally gearing up to begin our fiber construction season!

You can view our current construction projects, timelines, join our mailing list for communication updates, and more at goctc.com/construction.

If you were installed with services during the winter season, and had a temporary fiber line brought to your house, our crews will be out (weather dependent) to bury that line within the coming weeks. Be sure to visit this page for updates and information: goctc.com/tempdrops
At CTC, our employees tackle a wide range of jobs — everything from standard business operations like accounting, marketing, customer service, and sales to industry-specific tasks such as engineering, networking, product installation, training, and troubleshooting.

For this edition of Digital Digest, we visited with Lisa Cunningham, our Residential Associate Account Executive, to chat about what a “day in the life” looks like for her and her teammates.
How did you end up working for CTC?
How I ended up at CTC is kind of crazy. I was only going to work a summer temp job doing door hangers for the sales department (as I worked for the school district and had summers off). About a month in, Hopper (Eryk Haapajoki—Director of Sales), was telling me that there might be a residential sales position opening. He thought I would be a good fit for the position and to think about it. I talked to a couple of people at CTC to get a little more information on the company and then I made the decision to take the full-time position in residential sales.

What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me is answering incoming calls, making outgoing calls, setting up new residential accounts, and working on SmartSheets to keep track of new customers in all the new construction areas.

What is the biggest challenge for you or your teammates?
My biggest challenge is trying to keep up with all the new build areas and knowing when customers will be connected when they ask. I want all of our customers to be happy! 😊

What is your biggest/proudest accomplishment so far working at CTC?
My biggest/proudest accomplishment right now would be making our February sales goal for the first time ever!

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy making people happy— being able to bring them faster, more reliable internet, and with a company that values their customers, and puts their customers first. I also enjoy coming to work every day because I have the best coworkers ever. Everyone is so supportive and caring here. We are all like a little family at CTC!
Any CTC member that RSVPs and attends the meeting will receive a $25 bill credit!

Assistance Programs

We offer and facilitate a variety of assistance programs and resources to help families and households.

Affordable Connectivity Program
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a federal program that helps ensure that households can afford the broadband that they need for work, school, healthcare, and more.

For eligible households, this would provide a discount of up to $30 per month towards internet service and up to $75 for households on qualifying Tribal lands.

Lifeline Assistance
Lifeline is a federal program dedicated to making phone and internet services more affordable for low-income households. Administered by the Universal Service Administrative Co. (USAC), this benefit provides eligible consumers with a monthly discount of up to:

  • $9.25 for broadband or
  • $15.25 for voice
