District Affirms Opposition to Delta Tunnel

Diablo Water District, Ironhouse Sanitary District and the City of Oakley came together for a historic Joint Special Meeting on September 26, 2022 at Big Break Visitor Center to collaborate as a community in opposition to the Delta Conveyance Project (Delta Tunnel). The agencies received an informative and educational presentation from guest speakers heavily involved in public opposition to the tunnel. The health threats to the Delta, our local wildlife, our economy and the joy of Delta living, were some of the many threats discussed if this project continues. All agencies contributed to this very important conversation and solidified their approach to “One Water” management, and held a formal vote to reaffirm their opposition to this project.

At the District’s Regular Board Meeting on September 28, 2022, the Board approved a resolution in support of the health and safety of the Delta and will move forward in constructing a letter of opposition in response to the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR).

We hope to educate and encourage our community to make their voices heard and join us in opposition of the Delta Tunnel. The Draft EIR is available for public review and comment through December 16, 2022. Comments can be made via email, mail, online or at the virtual public hearing.

Make your voice heard - oppose to the Delta Tunnel

District Recognized with Distinguished Budget Award

Diablo Water District is excited to announce our recently awarded Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the July 2022 budget adopted at the Special Board Meeting on June 1, 2022.

In order to receive the budget award, the District had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. This award not only represents a significant achievement, but also the commitment of our Board and Staff to the financial integrity of the District. Our team remains steadfast in our commitment to educating our community as well as transparency in our financial and policy decisions.

The District is also a recognized California Special District Association Transparency Certificate holder. Diablo Water District strives to be a leader in engaging with the public and providing resources and materials to create awareness and educational opportunities. Fall Pollinator Event

Partnering with our community in a “One Water” approach is one of the guiding principles of the District. We know that building a resilient water future includes being environmentally responsible in our decisions and actions. We have partnered with Oakley Ace in providing resources to our customers to help offset the cost of converting their yards into a water-wise landscape and are excited to share another opportunity for our community to take these efforts to the next level.

Oakley Ace is hosting a Fall Pollinator event with Our Water Our World representatives on Saturday, October 29th from 11am - 2pm, at 3100 Main Street, Oakley, to educate about how planting natives should be part of every garden's integrated pest management efforts. The goal of this event is to raise awareness and to encourage our community to plant (neonicotinoid-free) flowers that bloom over the winter, for pollinators to feed on. Integrated Pest Management is the other focus of the event, for healthy gardens without pesticides polluting our land and storm water.

Ace Store owners began this event in 2011 in response to the neonicotinoids causing Sudden Colony Collapse among bee colonies throughout the country, due to the neonicotinoids being sprayed on plants. Gratefully, few plant nurseries now use neonics on their plants. All Stan's Hardware Stores' nurseries are proudly neonic-free.
