Values & Funding Priorities (VFP) Committee

Update

The Values & Funding Priorities (VFP) Committee is recruiting new committee members for 2023! The committee is tasked with strategizing on how to utilize existing funding resources and identifying funding gaps and potential resources to meet those needs. The committee helps make critical funding decisions for the Detroit CoC.  


We anticipate the group will meet monthly for 90 minutes beginning in April 2023, with additional subcommittee involvement beginning later in the year. For more information on the VFP committee, see attached VFP One-Pager.

Detroit Health Housing Center

With the recent opening of the Neighborhood Service Organization’s (NSO) Detroit Health Housing Center, the homeless service provider is moving towards a more integrative approach to addressing chronic homelessness. The center includes emergency shelter, permanent housing transition support and medical respite care clinic. Learn more the center and its services here.

As the Continuum moves closer to finding a new Coordinated Entry Lead, updates and information about the process and corresponding documentation can be found at the CAM Transition Resource Hub.

Funding Opportunity

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has issued and Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for fiscal year (FY) 2023 for the Grants for the Benefit of Homeless Individuals (GBHI) program. 


The purpose of this program is to provide comprehensive, coordinated, and evidence-based treatment and services for individuals, including youth, and families with substance use disorders (SUDs) or co-occurring mental health conditions and SUDs (CODs) who are experiencing homelessness. 


Applications are due March 21st. Interested parties should review the attached notice.

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council (NHCHC) is hosting a webinar designed to introduce storytelling concepts as a wellness tool for participants, patients, and society at large. The presenter will discuss storytelling from a multicultural lens and discuss how stories can be transformed from weapons used reinforce racism and oppression across systems, to an empowering healing tool for BIPOC communities and individuals.

Our Housing Futures: AFFH Comment Party

The AFFH rule requires that jurisdictions receiving public federal funds assess disparities and, based on the analysis, target federal resources in a manner that solves chronic persistent disparities in housing choices and access to fair housing.

During this webinar, Policy Link will share an overview of HUD’s draft rule, including areas of strength for commenters to support. They will also share data, research, and narrative tools that can be used to craft a strong comment. Serving Folks with Disabilities

This webinar will provide participants with information regarding what it means to serve folks with disabilities. It will review various topics, including intersectionality, disability rights, approaches to helping folks with disabilities, what ableism is, and ableist language and disability pride.
