Binyon replies to Ledoux's invitation to visit New York and thanks him for the purchase of this title and describes the delay in getting his Ode printed by Mr. Lambert, advising his work would by shipped shortly. By profession Bridges was a medical doctor. He befriended Richard Manly Hopkins and arranged Hopkins' posthumous publications. He was appointed Poet Laureate in 1913, the only medical graduate to have held the office. Armorial bookplate of Henry William Poor. Paris: E. Duchatel, 1907. First edition. 100 (2) pages. 31.5 x 25.5 cm. Limited edition, one of 300 from edition of 500 (this copy not numbered) on papier du Marais. Index and one page of adverts at rear. 12 full page original lithographs by Mrs. A. Belleroche, Andre Cahard, Desire Lucas, Abel Faivre, C. Cleandre, Paul Maurou, Lucien Metivet, L. Monod, Maruice Neumont, Georges Redon, L. Vallet & A. Willette. Lithography was invented in the 1790s by Alois Senefelder in Germany but, over the next century, became the domain of commercial and scientific printers. The French treatise of 1893 encouraged artists to return to the medium and the author, Duchatel's illustrated text describes how to work directly on the stone and use various transfer papers. Two years later, a major Paris exhibition of 1895, mounted to celebrate the centennial of the technique, and devoted a major section to prints by contemporary artists. The cover is by Maurice Neumont with the original lithograph also included within sans text. Text in French. Errata. Scattered light toning to margins of some images not affecting the portrait. Ford was an American poet, novelist, diarist, filmmaker, photographer, and collage artist. He published more than a dozen collections of poetry, exhibited his artwork in Europe and the United States, edited the Surrealist magazine View (1940–1947) in New York City, and directed an experimental film. 24. Hale, Edward Everett. 

The Man Without A Country. 

Boston: Ticknor And Fields, 1865. First edition. 23 pages. 16.5 x 11 cm. The story of an American Army lieutenant Philip Nolan, who renounces his country during a trial for treason and is consequently sentenced to spend the rest of his day as sea without so much as a word of news about the United States. The story was first published in the Atlantic Monthly in 1863 to bolster support for the Union Army during the Civil War. Hale's tale was so convincing many readers believed it to be a true story. Laid-in an ALS written and signed in pencil by Edward E. Hale on "Soldiers Memorial Society" of Boston stationery. Hale's name appears on the latter as "Secretary." General C.G. Loring, Jr, a Confederate General during the Civil War is on the masthead as Chairman Executive Committee. Bookplates of John Gribbel St. Austell Hall, and Warwick James Price (color engraving) front cover pastedown, inner dentelles, double gilt cover border fillets, marbled endpapers . Hearn had no definite assignment at the "Commercial," where he covered boxing matches, also reporting on Negro life, crime and poverty, but this did not deter him from seeking out the more bizarre stories presented here.
