May 2016 Industry Update

This months newsletter includes several important updates. The most exciting is of course the official opening of the new Camp Okavango. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in putting this incredible project together and for getting the camp open on time. All the details on the new camp can be seen below. We also have important updates on the closure of Chobe Game Lodge in December this year as well as their new webcam on the Chobe deck over-looking the floodplains. Go have a look but be warned, you may find yourself staring for hours as we often do.

Finally, we have an update on our newly opened family rooms at Camp Moremi, Camp Okavango and Savute Safari Lodge. With the opening of these rooms and our new Ultimate Family Safari Packages we are offering all inclusive, flexible itineraries for families looking to experience the very best of Botswana.

The New Camp Okavango Opens

Desert & Delta Safaris has great pleasure in announcing that construction of the new Camp Okavango is now complete and we welcomed our first guests back to our Okavango Delta paradise on Nxaragha Island on the 14 April 2016.

The rebuild of Camp Okavango took a total of 5 months which began with the complete removal of the original camps infrastructure. The new camp has moved to the edge of the Nxaragha Island to take advantage of the impressive delta scenery but kept within the original camps general location to ensure there was minimal impact on the environment during construction.

Those of you who have visited Chobe Game Lodge before will know what a remarkable spot the Chobe Deck is. Well over 200 meters of raised boardwalk following the Chobe River's edge culminate to what has become otherwise known as the Chobe Deck of Fame.

This eastern facing deck overlooks arguably the highest concentration of elephant herds in Africa with stunning views across the Chobe River and floodplains. You can now tune in ANY TIME by accessing our webcam link online. Don't forget the tag #ChobeDeckofFame.

Camp Moremi, Camp Okavango and Savute Safari Lodge Family Rooms

In February during our annual camp closure we began building family rooms at Camp Moremi, Camp Okavango and Savute Safari Lodge. We are delighted to announce that these family rooms were completed on time and and have already started welcoming families.

At each camp we converted one or our existing guest rooms into a family unit which means the room allocation at Camp Moremi, Camp Okavango and Savute Safari Lodge has now changed to eleven standard rooms and one family unit. The new family rooms include two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and inter-leading doors allowing for easy access from within the unit.
