Notice of Continued Public Hearing | Notice of Hearing – Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of Derry Township, Dauphin County, PA, will reconvene the public hearing in Conditional Use Application No. 2022-06 on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 6:00 pm and on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 6:00 pm in the main meeting room of the Administration building at the Derry Township Municipal Complex, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey, PA. The Board of Supervisors will consider testimony, evidence, and public comment at the public hearings and may take action on the same at that time. Public Works Department
Removal of Recreational Equipment
| During street sweeping, leaf picking, and snow plowing operations, freestanding basketball nets, soccer goals, and any other sporting equipment located along curbs, in alleys, and in the street, pose a serious safety issue to the drivers performing their duties either sweeping, collecting leaves or plowing snow. The Public Works Department is asking that this equipment be moved from the roadway and alley so that they do not overhang or protrude into the right-of-way. The Township of Derry will not reimburse for any damage to basketball nets/poles or any other recreational equipment located within the right-of-way that is damaged while performing the above-listed operations. The Township of Derry will seek full payment for any damage to any equipment caused by recreational equipment located within the right-of-way. | | |

DTMA: Bullfrog Valley
Stream Restoration Project
| Bullfrog Valley Stream Restoration: Construction is expected to begin the week of October 17th to restore the stretch of Bullfrog Valley Run between the pond and Derry Woods Drive. This Chesapeake Bay Pollutant Reduction Plan Project is expected to be completed in early 2023 and will help reduce sediment loads by over 200,000 pounds per year. Derry Township invites its residents to bring personal documents that need to be shredded to its Shred-It Event, Saturday, October 15, from 8:00 to 10:45 am at Derry Township Public Works Facility, 650 Clearwater Road. This event is for residents only and
is limited to two bags/boxes per household.

As always, you will see tons of advertising from companies claiming their plan is the best, but how do you really know whom you can trust to give you clear guidance? Jay from The Financial Education Partnership(FEP), a 501c(3) non-profit, is here to help. Jay has worked within the Medicare system since 2008 and volunteered for FEP since 2016. The organization’s only focus is on giving clear and honest guidance to anyone who needs advice on Medicare.

It's that time of year again. Break out the measuring cups, baking pans, and food coloring! This year, for the Edible Book Contest, we will have Patron’s Choice 16+, Patron’s Choice 15 and under, Family/Group, and the coveted FRIENDS Grand prize. All entries should be 95% edible. Entries will need to be dropped off on October 22 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. There is no Friday afternoon drop-off. All entries will need to be picked up between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm as we close at 5:00 pm. All voting will be done in person from

Philosophers' Table Discussion Group: Meets the second Tuesday of the month starting in November from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Hershey Public Library. Dates are November 8, December 13, January 10, February 14, and March 14. Please register on the events' calendar. To register, click this link. Register to join the round table discussion, led by Jim Logue, and engage in the Socratic method to delve into philosophical discussions and share opinions in a neutral and respectful way without interruption. Each month the group will choose a philosophical issue and those attending will learn and discuss it in an open and respectful atmosphere. A great way to engage and expand your mind. Hershey area residents have always enjoyed celebrating Halloween with costumes, trick-or-treating, parties, and most importantly, our Halloween Parade! This year, the parade celebrates its 74th Anniversary, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, and you can be a part of the tradition! The judging starts at 6:15 pm and the parade starts at 7:00 pm. The Parade Committee is now accepting applications from individuals and couples, small and large groups of costumed marchers, floats, and marching bands. Registered participants must walk in the parade.

Wednesdays at 5:30 pm - Strength, Stability, & Stretch (w/ Kim E.)
Strength, Stability, & Stretch provides resistance exercises that target strength while adding an additional component for balance. The workout includes dynamic and static stretching to improve the range of motion. All 3 elements of this class are combined to support an active lifestyle.

The focus of this class is to yield a partnership that can teach individuals to socially dance wherever salsa and bachata music is offered. You do not need a dance partner to sign up for this class. They will provide detailed instructions on the steps, technique, and partnering of Salsa and Bachata. Leads and follows will be taught how to link steps together and dance progressively to faster and more difficult songs. *Classes taught by PA DanceSport Ballroom.

The public is invited to the 7th annual Choctoberfest event, Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm in ChocolateTown Square, at the corners of Chocolate and Cocoa Avenues. This free family festival is organized by the Downtown Hershey Association and features live bands, beer, bites, and plenty of chocolate. Food and drink will be available to purchase from three dozen vendors. Food vendors include Chocolate Avenue Grille, Smoked, Devon, Houlihan’s, and Soulfully Famous. Beverage vendors on tap include Troegs, Englewood Brewing, Hidden Still Spirits, Boneshire Brew Works, and more. Simon Johnson Will Play Derry Church's Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ | |

Simon Johnson, Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral, London, UK, will perform on the Aeolian-Skinner Op. 1132 that was recently installed at Derry Presbyterian Church. The concert will be held at 6:30 pm Tuesday, October 18 in the Sanctuary at 248 East Derry Road, Hershey. The concert is part of the church’s 2022 Arts Alive! cultural series. A free-will offering will be received. Handicapped parking and an elevator are available. Face masks for audience members are optional. Derry Church’s Aeolian-Skinner Op. 1132 was originally installed in 1950 at the Church of the Redeemer in New Haven, Connecticut. Derry Church purchased the Op. 1132 in fall 2019 as the Church of the Redeemer was closing, and the installation was completed in September 2021.

Medical Center - Diabetes Fair

Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center will host a Diabetes Fair on Monday, November 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Free blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and glucose screenings will be offered. The Medical Center’s healthcare team and vendors will provide information on:
- Coping with diabetes
- Healthy eating and exercise
- Diabetes foot care
- Insulin pumps
- Continuous glucose monitors
