The Township's Fall Shred-It event is this Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 8:00 to 10:45 am at the Derry Township Public Works Facility at 650 Clearwater Road. This event is exclusively for residents and is limited to two bags or boxes per household. We encourage all residents to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of confidential or sensitive documents. Click here for more information.

The Derry Township Municipal Authority has announced that they will be replacing storm sewer culverts that cross beneath Wood Road and Limerick Court. Starting Monday, October 23, 2023, weather permitting, vehicular traffic on Wood Road, between Bullfrog Valley Road and Waltonville Road, will be restricted for 3 to 4 days. Wood Road will be closed daily during sewer replacement work but will be reopened each day after working hours. Local traffic traveling only between Bullfrog Valley Road and Limerick Court will still be permitted during working hours during the Wood Road closure. Additionally, Limerick Court at the location where the culvert crosses will be closed starting Wednesday, October 18, 2023, for 3 to 4 days, weather permitting. The Derry Township Municipal Authority advises all drivers to follow the posted detours and allow for extra travel time.

We are excited to announce that the Ragnar Relay Pennsylvania, a 200-mile relay race, will be coming through Hershey this Friday and Saturday, October 13th and 14th! The Derry Environmental Action Committee needs several volunteers for the planting of street trees throughout the Township. The planting will occur on a Saturday in early November for about 3 hours in the morning. If you are interested in helping to beautify the Township, please contact Chuck Gassert at 717-460-7684.

Derry Township residents, please remember our tree branch guidelines for sidewalks and roadways. Branches should not hang lower than 9 feet over sidewalks and 12 feet over roadways, ensuring pedestrian and vehicle safety. Avoid foliage blocking street signs and lights for driver visibility and pedestrian safety. Property owners are responsible for pruning trees and removing obstructive vegetation by maintaining sidewalks, streets, and alleys. When gathering your leaves this fall season, we ask that residents gather leaves at the curb’s edge while ensuring that fire hydrants and street signs remain unobstructed. Furthermore, we urge you not to blow leaves onto the street, which poses risks for drivers and pedestrians. State PA Representative Tom Mehaffie has provided outreach programs for the remainder of 2023. The Board of Supervisors declared the week of October 15-21, 2023 – “Friends of Libraries Week” in Derry Township. This coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Friends of the Hershey Public Library.
