On May 7th, we had an encouraging and motivating event at our pediatrics grand rounds that perfectly captured the significance of academic medical research conducted by WCM physician researchers. As the physician scientist faculty at WCM, Dr. Hadley Brighton, Associate Medical Director of Inpatient Pediatrics, expressed gratitude to Dr. Jim Bussel, Professor Emeritus and Grand Rounds speaker, for developing the treatment of Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia. Her child was diagnosed with the condition and treated during her subsequent pregnancy, resulting in a healthy one-year-old who is now bouncing around. This also led to genetic testing of her family members to determine their own risk. This is evidence of the work of pediatrician experts and WCM medical research! | | | |
