Spiddal is a small, 3-pub, Irish coastal town, 15 miles west of Galway, where my wife and I exchanged homes for nearly a month in 2017. Many mornings I spent at the harbor where the scenery changed quickly with the sky and tide. Here it is at low tide. Most notable is the two-hundred-year-old, black, wooden, Galway Hooker moored nearest the steps in the harbor corner. The Hookers, rigged with three crimson sails, were used in this region for long-line fishing and hauling dried turf to the Aran Islands to be burned for heat.
