Is produce from the farmers market better?
More than 85% of farmers market vendors travel fewer than 50 miles to sell at a farmers markets. In fact, more than half of farmers travel less than 10 miles to their market, according to the USDA. Some farmers markets require that all of their produce come from a specified distance. Compare that to most supermarkets, where anywhere from seven to fourteen days may go by between the time produce is harvested and available to shoppers. On average, fruits and vegetables travel over 1,200 miles before reaching grocery store shelves! Locally grown produce sold at the farmers market is made available at its peak freshness and nutrient content. Local farmers may select their crops and livestock for superior flavor and quality without the worries accompanying shelf life and long-distance shipping. You may also find more specialty foods at the farmers market, such as farm-fresh eggs, lamb, duck, or heirloom tomatoes. Read more about the benefits of eating local produce here.

Market Vendor Spotlight
Equals Me
Equals Me is a small home decor & candle business offering handmade home decor and coconut soy candles. Equals Me emerged from a love for home decor, especially during the annual spring reset, where founder Roanna explored home decor stores and thrift shops for new and vintage pieces. Repurposing items from thrift stores, she began crafting her own creations that caught the attention of family and friends. During spring resets, Roanna encountered issues with purchased candles leaving soot and marks on the ceilings, leading her to research different wax and wick options. Discovering that the candles she bought were made with paraffin and contained headache-inducing fragrances, she decided to create her own cleaner, toxin-free alternatives. After over a year of dedication to candle-making and education on candle care, Equals Me now offers meticulously crafted candles with eco-friendly coconut soy wax, natural crackling wood wicks, and biodegradable glitter for a unique and wholesome sensory experience.
MISSION & GOALS
The name Equals Me is inspired by my son. My son is autistic and every day we get to see the world through his eyes, and what a beautiful world it is. He encourages us to think outside the box and reminds us that there's other ways to do things. Our mission is to encourage everyone to be their unique self LOUD and PROUD! As our business begins to grow this year, we would love to start donating 7% of our proceeds to Autism Society. Our handmade products also represent our business, each product is unique.
Stop by their booth at The Dedham Farmers Market This week!
