Holiday Happenings at MOS
A letter from Michael O'Neal

Dear Friends,
The MOS Vision Statement says the following:
Recognizing that music is essential to the human spirit, The Michael O'Neal Singers organization improves the quality of life of its singers and audiences through performance of choral repertoire that engages, educates and enriches.
You will notice our Vision Statement includes both singers and audiences, and that is not by accident. While our ultimate goal is to always present concerts for our audiences that are entertaining and compelling, there is much that goes on behind the scenes to make that possible, and that involves staff, board members, volunteers and singers.
It is, in fact, the singers of MOS I want to tell you about now. If you were to visit a rehearsal on Monday evening (visitors are always welcome) you would observe persons arriving from all over the metro area for an intense, but also exhilarating, 2½-hour rehearsal. These people would have already completed a full day of activity and struggled through rush hour traffic to make it to rehearsal by 7 PM. Why? What brings about such a level of commitment? MOS participants do it because they are enriched through the experience of singing a wide variety of wonderful music. We come together to create something we could never do by ourselves, and in the process we grow both as an ensemble and as individuals.
In observing our rehearsal, you would also notice there is laughter. I decided many years ago I always wanted laughter to be a part of every rehearsal I conducted, and am convinced that taking the music more seriously than we take ourselves results in better performances and happier performers. I hope in our concerts you are able to observe that joy on the faces of the singers. We are always most successful when we are able to share with those of you who attend the concerts something of the love and appreciation of the music we are performing.
Our next two concerts will take place in just a few weeks.
Christmas Joy
will be on Sunday, December 2, at 3 PM, and will feature the 135 voices of MOS, the 36-voice Kaleidoscope ensemble, and our special guest, the Atlanta Symphony Brass Quintet. You can expect traditional selections, humorous pieces, and even audience participation in this concert emphasizing the joy and excitement of Christmas and the holiday season. On Sunday, December 16, at 3 PM, we will host our
13th Annual Messiah Sing-Along
. This has become an Atlanta Holiday tradition for many and whether you participate as a singer or listener, it is sure to be a highlight of your Holiday season.
Sincerely,
Michael

MOS has produced four Christmas CDs, including our most recent release,
Christmas Through the Ages. This CD was recorded live in December of 2016, and has been recently re-issued after selling out last Christmas.
We also feature our
Classy, Brassy Christmas CD, recorded live in our 2013 program with the Atlanta Symphony Brass Quintet, and contains many of the pieces to be performed this December 2 for
Christmas Joy.

We wish to highlight
the
Fulton County Board of Commissioners
and the
Fulton County Arts and Culture
Department. Fulton County leaders strive to strengthen the cultural knowledge of Fulton County citizens, organizations and communities by awarding funding to non-profit organizations whose arts programming supports the missions, goals and values of Fulton County Government. MOS has received financial grants from Fulton County through the Arts Council and Commissioners for over 20 years. These funds have
allowed MOS to present vibrant and diverse programming to fulfill the three key aspects of our Mission Statement: to engage, educate and enrich Atlanta-area singers and audiences. Funding from Fulton County has also helped MOS expand its community outreach, such as the production and distribution of of our
MOS Remembers CD and live-streams of our concerts. Thank you, Fulton County Commissioners, for your continued support of The Michael O'Neal Singers.
Our private and individual donors deserve our thanks for their generous support as well. Individual donations make up more than one-third of our annual income, and for them we are profoundly grateful.
Thank you to all who support The Michael O'Neal Singers in reaching our communities through song.
