WG Simmons was inducted into the NC Pork Hall of Fame in 2014. This is what is written on his plaque:

During his career spanning more than 20 years as an Area Specialized Swine Agent for the NC Cooperative Extension Service in southeastern North Carolina, W.G. Simmons worked with

farmers who were transitioning to the now-integrated swine production method, helping them to become sustainable and profitable. He also took on the role of liaison between farmers and the

N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources during the state permitting period.

When disaster struck, Simmons stepped in and was hailed a valuable friend during Hurricane

Floyd, helping with disaster management for farms. He lent his assistance to producers, industry personnel, the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, and other agencies in an effort to manage mortality, maintain feed availability and access resources.

Simmons was instrumental in the formation of Eastern Foods, a cooperative for independent swine producers. Even in his retirement, Simmons continues to support the swine industry and agriculture. He regularly attends area livestock meetings and shares his knowledge and experience with extension

agents, providing valuable guidance. Simmons is an outstanding representative for North Carolina’s swine industry. Whether he’s serving pork chops or advice, he remains a valued asset in southeastern North Carolina.

It's that time of year again to show the world we Give a Ham!

Since we are in the midst of a pandemic, we wanted to make sure there was a virtual option so that everyone can safely participate. We have set up virtual fundraisers for the seven Second Harvest food banks in North Carolina and we've asked that our funds be designated for pork purchases. The NC Pork Council will match donations made through the link below, up to $500 at each food bank.

The 2021 NC Pork Conference, annual meeting and annual awards luncheon are postponed until further notice. We do hope to have it in person rather than virtually once the governor lifts the mass gathering limits and it is safe to gather together again.
