Release The Old To Bring In The New Year

To close 2017 and prepare for 2018, here are some things you can do and think to enlighten and lighten your life:

• Get rid of the old to make room for the new .

• Clean out kitchen cupboards, bathroom cabinets and clothes closets. When you give away or”put into circulation” what you no longer use, you are not only helping others, you are also bringing a sense of order to your own life.

Let go of your mistakes in 2017. Forgive yourself and find the lesson and blessing in the negative. There is always a silver lining somewhere; Look for it. Even losing someone or something precious in your life has a gift for you.You may not see it at the time, and you have to go through the grieving process, but there is some great lesson and memory there that will help you in the future.

• Make peace with others who have hurt you. Holding onto resentment keeps it around you and within you, and can hurt you mentally and physically. Wish those people well and see them in their very own circle of light appear and away from you. Then see your own light shining bright.

• Give thanks for your 2017 blessings. Take stock of the good things in your life; family, friends, co-workers your home your health relationships, finances and your own spiritual growth. Write down all of the good things that have happened to you this past year. Think about each one in great detail.

• Be open to and learn from opposing views. Take time to understand why the other person is saying what they say and why believe in it. By doing this, you learn to listen and and understand first before arguing. In this way you move towards conflict resolution and the ability to communicate even under difficult circumstances.

• Give yourself a time to replenish. No matter how busy you are, find time to rest, relax, rejuvenate and refuel. This could be walking on the beach, reading a good book, spending time with a treasured friend, watching your favorite program, listening to your favorite music, working in your garden, and anything else that you really enjoy doing for yourself.

Stay in touch with those you love. Call, e-mail or send a note to those you love at least once a week. These special people are here now and may not be here tomorrow. Take advantage of the special moments you have with them. Send e-mails, photos. By staying in touch, you are are reaching out to your life lines of love and love carries you a long way.

• Look for everyday miracles . Take note of that phone call you just received from the person you were just thinking about, the person who let you go in front of the line when you were rushed, the stranger who offered to help you carry your heavy bags, the person who overheard your request fro directions or advice and freely gave it, or the child, spouse, friend, who hugged you today and said, “I love you.”

Happy Holidays colleagues, readers, listeners and friends!
Here’s to 2018.
