Team,
Happy Hanukkah!
As we enter the holiday season and approach the end of another remarkable year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our collective achievements and extend my heartfelt gratitude to every one of you. Your hard work, dedication, and resilience have been the driving force behind our success, and I am truly grateful to have such a talented and committed team.
2023 has been filled with an array of challenges, a lot of growth, and many moments of greatness. Together, we have navigated through uncertainties, adapted to changes, and worked effortlessly to make Ginsberg’s the best it can be.
December is also time to prepare for the upcoming year and reflect on our success and opportunities to plan for 2024. Let's create our year ahead and not rely on history to dictate our future!
May this holiday season bring you joy, peace, and the opportunity to recharge while spending time with your family.
Merry Christmas & and Happy New Year!
Thank you and stay safe,

Rich Vanderpool, affectionately known as Rich, brings over a decade of sales experience and a deep-rooted connection to the foodservice industry. His story begins in Elmira, NY, where he grew up in the family business, Empire Foods, a small regional distributor at the time. Rich's journey in the industry took an interesting turn when the family business was acquired by Bevaco, owned by Frank Bevavino. Subsequently, the company became a part of US Foodservice through a merger with Alliance.
During his foodservice sales journey at US Foods, Rich collaborated with Steve Jorgensen, a retired Ginsberg's District Sales Manager. This meeting paved the way for Rich to join Ginsberg’s Foods as part of the Binghamton sales team years later.
Before joining Ginsberg's, Rich spent time as a Chemical Specialist at Rykoff Sexton's Connecticut branch. Later, he spent 12 years at Maines, progressing to Program Accounts Management for regional chains such as Tullys, Cornell, and Corning Inc. Finally, Steve Jorgensen reached out and recruited Rich to join the Ginsberg's Sales team.
| |
Today, Rich covers the Binghamton and Ithaca markets, overseeing a $5 million portfolio for Ginsberg’s. His customer base ranges from diners to pizzerias, as well as well-known establishments like Tioga Downs, Thai, and Chinese restaurants. In addition to sales, Rich also supports the chemical service program in the market, managing 35 accounts and conducting service calls and preventive maintenance across the entire region.
One of Rich's strengths lies in his ability to build and maintain deep relationships with independent operators in the Binghamton-area market. His favorite part of the day is engaging with customers in one-on-one discussions, talking about food, business, and a little bit of life. Customers appreciate his warm and welcoming approach, often jokingly claiming they were on a "stop ship." Reflecting on the changes in processes over the years, Rich reminisces about the days of taking orders using the telzone and the location of every drive-up phone was in the area. Today, the sales process has transformed dramatically with the introduction of new technology.
|
Outside the professional realm, Rich is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying activities like snowmobiling and ATV riding. His house in the Adirondacks serves as a haven for snowmobiling adventures, and with a collection of five Arctic Cats sleds, Rich is ready for any adventures, noting that his longest snowmobile ride to date has been about 160 miles in a day. All of this adds a touch of adventure to his life. Far beyond the hustle of the foodservice industry, Rich is actually a musician at heart, beginning his craft at age 14. He is a vocalist, playing the guitar, piano, and drums, and mostly enjoys playing classic rock. His favorite band is AC/DC, a common bond with Sales Director Charlie Sofokles.
|
In his personal life, Rich is a divorced father of two – a 34-year-old son and a 33-year-old daughter. Despite life's twists, his family comes together for holidays, highlighting the importance of family bonds. Rich's entrepreneurial spirit also led him to own an RV dealership named Straits Corners RVs, and interestingly, this endeavor made him realize his dislike for campgrounds and campers.
Rooted in values, Rich acknowledges the importance of his moral compass and faith. For him, the foodservice business is not just a career; it's a way of life, a testament to everything he has ever known. Rich Vanderpool's journey is a fascinating tapestry of family legacy, professional growth, and personal passions, woven together by a deep commitment to the foodservice industry.

NOVEMBER 2023
DAY ASSOCIATE OF THE MONTH
| |
|
Spencer Murphy
During the month of November, Spencer was recognized for his hard work and creative approach to the job. Spencer is consistent in ensuring new slots are set up for the daily new items coming into the warehouse for each zone, ensuring the receiving team is set up for success to put the product away. Spencer can be counted on to come up with effective slotting ideas for the new items that help the night team ergonomically with an easy pick path, which also ensures the pickers can build solid pallets for our customers. Spencer also helps the team with training the new hire and helping the inventory and day team find any missing pallets or unscanned putaways at the end of the shift. Spencer was also willing to “float” whenever he was asked, filling in and assisting with putaways in all three zones, as well as helping lump or receiving freight. Spencer is a solid, consistent performer, who is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

NOVEMBER 2023
NIGHT ASSOCIATE OF THE MONTH
| |
|
Analiza Overby
Overby is currently the only female associate on the night team, but she has proven time and time again that this job can be for anyone. Being a tier 3 selector, Overby is in the middle of the pack and has even become a top performer for the night on more than a few occasions. Overby is approaching her 5 years with the company and is showing no signs of slowing down, even on long nights you can count on her to stick it out with her team.

A MESSAGE FROM NANCY FULLER | |
We are halfway through the new season of Holiday Baking Championship and there are 6 talented bakers still in the running for the $25,000 grand prize.
If you want to encourage a friendly Northern contestant, be sure to tune in on Mondays to the Food Network to see Justine Rota whose accent is undeniably the Boston region! There is also Kevin Conniff from Calgary, Canada who is a pasty chef instructor and chocolatier. Ashley Landerman from New Braunfels, TX is a bakery owner and mom of two children. She loves the holidays. Sharrod is an executive pastry chef in Atlanta and grew up in an army family as well as served for five years. He is the youngest of six children. We are reminded of someone else who is the youngest of six! Thoa Nguyen is the owner of an Asian fusion dessert bakery and wants to make her family proud. Javier Trujillo is originally from Mexico but lives in Chicago. Although his grandma owned a bakery in Mexico where he grew up, he never spent one day there and now bakes for a living.
Enjoy your holidays, your family, and your friends.
