Namaste!
One night, a 5 year old child looked up at the stars and exclaimed, "God's home! All God's lights are on!"
Yoga teaches us to see God's Light in one another. Look into the eyes (the window to the soul) and see the Divine Light shining through. Yes, you are seeing that God is home.
In the ultimate state of Self-realization, you see God is home wherever you look. Just as you might see the light of the sun shining through several skylights and windows of your home, one God shines through many eyes. It's blissful to see this way.
When we greet each other saying "Namaste" with our palms together over our hearts, we are acknowledging that we see the Divine in one another. It's a practice that brings out the Truth. We are cultivating our ability to see the Truth. The Truth was always there. The Divine was always there.

My favorite quote from last month's contemplation article is: "Yoga makes you able to settle deeper into your own Beingness, so your essence shines into the world like the full moon lights up the night."
Your Beingness is your Essence. Your Beingness is who you really are. Your essential nature is not your doingness. You may define yourself by what you do, but that isn't who you really are. If you get caught up in doingness (busyness), your light grows dimmer. First settle into your Beingness, then your light shines naturally from within —whatever you do.
That's a good tip for the holiday season: a time when it's very easy to get caught up in too much busyness. That's how we get depleted. Our light grows dimmer. You don't feel like your Self. With the nights growing longer, this is a good reason to keep your energy tank full so that your light can continue to shine more brightly.
This holiday season is a time to experience peace and joy. Peace and joy come together when you experience the Bliss of Beingness. In this month's contemplation article, Sharing Your Happiness, Swami writes that Svaroopa® yoga is called "bliss yoga" because: "...its purpose is for you to experience svaroopa, the bliss of your own Beingness."
She says: "If you're not yet established in yogic bliss, you can access it anytime with just a few minutes of yoga...It happens in every class. In every meditation program."
So we wish you great peace and joy this holiday season — actually the whole month and forever more! Please join us whenever you can to replenish your bliss reservoir and to keep it full. We want you to keep shining!
Also, we are having a free Satsang gathering on Thursday evening, December 21st, to celebrate the Winter Solstice along with the light and bliss of your own Beingness. Read on for more information on that and other schedue changes this month, plus much more.
Our fundraiser of the month is for Feeding America, a charity that helps ensure no one goes hungry. Share your happiness by donating so that others may be fed and made happier!
Happy reading. Happy Holidays!

Focus Practice of the Month:
Take Note of Your Experience
Writing down our thoughts and describing our experiences helps us remember what is important to us.
Practicing Svaroopa® yoga makes you feel alive and full inside. You experience the bliss of your own Beingness. At the end of every class, we give you the opportunity to savor the highlight of your yoga experience.
This month, let's take it one step further. Bring a pen and notebook or journal with you to class. At the end of class, write down just one thing that stood out. By writing it down, you imprint that new awareness on your mind. I will give you a chance to share with others what stood out for you.

Honoring Those Who Served: Wayne Clayborne
In last month's newsletter, in honoring veterans we forgot to include Wayne Clayborne for his 33 years of continuous active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Wayne came to the Coast Guard with a high school diploma (he says "barely") and departed with undergraduate and graduate degrees, He honorably retired at the rank of Commander. His training included successful completion of Officer Candidate School, Aviation Survivalman School, and he was a member of the first Coast Guard class to attend the Navy Rescue Swimmer School. He was especially proud that he survived the latter, for which the failure/dropout rate is 75%.
Wayne was also proud to make a difference — with nothing expected in return — to so many folks in their time of need. He helped spearhead rescues both by air and sea. He was deployed to help victims of man-made disasters and natural disasters. He was deployed to Haiti after one of its huge earthquakes and helped Haitians for several months.
Looking back, he says he is especially proud of his spouse and daughters for valuing his service and making so many sacrifices to support his career. He says "You miss a lot when you are deployed so often."
We thank you, Wayne. Giving you a free class was nothing compared to what you have given so many others.

December Fundraiser:
This holiday season, help end hunger in America
| |
|
Please join us in helping make sure nobody goes hungry this holiday season and forever more. Feeding America is a well-established 4-star-rated charity that's working for this goal. Hunger is a complex issue, and Feeding America is tackling it from all angles. It's working to improve access to nutritious food, expand economic security, and advocate for policies that make it easier for people to get the food they need.
Feeding America supports a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries and meal programs. Here in Massachusetts, they include The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, The Greater Boston Food Bank and the Worcester County Food Bank. If you are from outside Massachusetts, you can look up supported food banks in your area. Click here.
We have established a Facebook fundraiser for you, or you can donate directly on the Feeding Americal website:

Ongoing: W. Brookfield Sharing Cupboard Food Pantry
|
Special note: Lately, more people have been showing up in need of food. This trend will probably continue through the winter. So donations are of paramount importance now. There are many hungry and destitute people living around us. They are very appreciative of the service the pantry provides. Volunteers are always welcome.
We continue collecting donations of money, food and other items weekly for the West Brookfield Sharing Cupboard Food Pantry. Top priority includes non-perishable food such as regular sized (not large) canned proteins (meats or beans), dried beans, grains, peanut butter or other nut butters, powdered milk and cheese that does not have to be refrigerated, cookies, crackers, coffee, condiments (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, etc.), canned or packaged soups. Organic is appreciated by many. Also, toilet paper and paper towels. You can also bring cleaning supplies, hand cleaners, and can openers. There is a box in our mudroom where you can drop off your contributions. Thank you in advance!

"I am very thankful for stepping out of my comfort zone and giving Yoga a try — it was the right thing to do for many reasons and one of those reasons was meeting you nice folks." ~ Wayne Clayborne (Note from us: We are glad Wayne took up the challenge, as he has done so many times in his life. It's a pleasure seeing him enthusiastic and regularly attending our Thursday morning classes. [See our tribute to Wayne as a forrmer member of the Coast Guard, above])

Testimonial
"Since I started the Embodyment sessions a few months ago, I have noticed a lot of changes... I always felt great after the experience and noticed I slept better. It seems to make my body lighter, and I have more confidence in doing my yoga poses. I feel the poses more deeply. I am able to move my body better with more grace.
I don't sweat the small things as much. It has helped me let things go and concentrate on the day and not always ask myself 'what if?'. It has helped me become more grateful for all that I have and for my health, friends and family. I have become more understanding with people. A lot of this comes with the help of yoga classes in combination with my Embodyment sessions. Embodyments have really helped my yoga practice..." ~ Kathy Bassford, Warren

Wisdom to Live By: Connection
Gurudevi (Swami Nirmalananda), from Sharing Your Happiness, December's Contemplation Article:
"Svaroopa® yoga is...the yoga of Grace. Grace is like the wind which blows away the clouds, thus revealing the sun that had been blazing all the time. In this analogy, the sun is your own Self, shining from within, the source of the bliss arising within."
"You are in charge of your bliss tank. You decide how empty or full it is. You already know how to do things that deplete it. Yoga offers you many ways to fill it. When your tank is full, you are healthier and happier. As your bliss deepens and expands, you begin to overflow. Your words are more genuine. Your actions have more heart in them."
"And leave this world a little better than you found it. Give a little more than you get. Go the extra inch, maybe even an extra mile. As a yogi, you've got deep inner reserves. Keep your bliss tank full so you can give more, do more and share more with others."

"I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being." ~ Hafez
"There is a light which cannot ever be extinguished. It is inside of you. It is you." ~ Neale Donald Walsch
"We are all of us stars, and we deserve to twinkle." ~ Marilyn Monroe
"Yogic bliss is reliable; happiness (joy) is not. Bliss is more fulfilling than happiness. It fills you from the inside. Since bliss arises from within, you can bring it with you everywhere you go." ~ Swami Nirmalananda
|
"Humor is the great thing, the saving thing, after all. The moment it arises, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place." ~ Mark Twain
