While volunteers keep your staffing needs minimal, and allow your nonprofit to focus on the next big project, are you really getting the most out of your volunteers?

I recently contributed to an article about the new role of volunteering in the workplace. Offering volunteer opportunities (or corporate social responsibility, CSR) is fast becoming a positive differentiator in recruitment and retention. On the surface, this looks like a win-win-win: companies look good, employees feel good, and the community partners gain some much-needed support. Read on. |
Volunteers are vital; the life spark of many nonprofits and charities. These organizations typically rely on the motivation of volunteers to keep helping those in need. As the leader of a nonprofit, watching the bottom line is critical. But you shouldn't do so at the expense of your volunteers. Volunteers risk burnout when organizations ask too much of them.
