NEVADA MOONSHOT FLIGHT CREW

The Nevada Moonshot Flight Crew is a group of Nevada youth ranging between the ages of 13 to 17 who are motivated to close the gender gap in STEM in our state. The members have received monthly trainings on public speaking, advocacy, leadership, and more.

Meet Flight Crew member, Phoenix, and her mentor Nicole!


Phoenix has a passion for deep space exploration and with the guidance of her mentor, Nicole, they have been able to explore the world of science together on the UNLV campus.

The NV Moonshot Flight Crew application for cohort 2 is now open! Nevada girls & gender expansive youth ages 12-16 are encouraged to apply! Youth will participate in public speaking opportunities, STEM experiences, a mentorship experience, and a $500 scholarship to support STEM educational experiences will be provided during the program to those selected!

We are a team of faculty and students from UNLV in different fields ranging from engineering to education who are dedicated to providing cutting-edge technology to students of the Las Vegas community. Our purpose is to increase student exposure to and engagement in modern science and engineering tools to encourage students into high-demand STEM fields.

Power to Explore Student Challenge


Share this opportunity with your K-12 students!


The Power to Explore Student Challenge is open for entries & invites K-12th grade students in the United States to learn about radioisotope power systems and write an essay about a new powered mission for the agency. Entries should detail where students would go, what they would explore, and how they would use the power of radioisotope power systems to achieve mission success in a dusty, dark, or far away space destination with limited or obstructed access to light.

Submissions are due Jan. 26, 2024.

Youth AstroNet

Calling all afterschool educators! The Smithsonian and Harvard have a new opportunity for you and your youth to reach for the stars! Learn how you can join the YouthAstroNet community – your students will be able to take and create amazing images of space using real telescopes, all through a child-safe online portal.


Educators who take part in the project must be willing to participate in a research study that accompanies the program and will receive $250 for this participation.

NASA’s Surprisingly STEM Monthly Career Exploration - Video Series

Check out the Surprisingly STEM video series that highlights exciting and unexpected careers at NASA. Programs can share this series with their program members to learn more about unique STEM careers.


NASA’s Kennedy Space Center is known for its launch pads,  rocket launches, and cutting-edge technology -- it’s also a  national wildlife refuge! NASA has a team of biologists whose mission is to protect and preserve threatened and endangered species living near launch sites. Biologists Eric Reyier, Ph.D.,  and Bonnie Ahr share how their ecological work contributes to the agency’s larger mission and how they personally ended up on a  boat in the Florida wetlands doing exciting work for NASA.
