We are currently assessing the damage from the reported 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck southwestern Haiti around 8:29 am this morning, followed by 3 aftershocks averaging magnitude 4.0.

The devastating effects of the earthquake were felt throughout our zone of service. There are many reports of many fatalities, injuries, and significant damage all across the region, with the numbers growing as the day progresses.

The perimeter wall at Maison de Naissance collapsed, taking down the power lines from our generator building. Fortunately, the solar power system appears to be intact. The foundation of the main building is badly damaged, as shown on the left, and the interior cannot be assessed due the to danger of collapse. This will be the first time in history our center will be closed, until the damage is assessed and it is determined whether the building is safe.
