Women's Self-Defense Class - This Sunday


We’re partnering with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office to host a FREE, fun, and engaging Women’s Self-Defense Class!

  • Date: Sunday, April 7th
  • Time: 2pm-4pm
  • Place: De Soto Community Center


The event is open to women and girls ages 14 and up and covers safety tips, awareness techniques, physical self-defense principles, and a Q&A session.

First Brush Site - Tomorrow


The City brush site WILL be open this Saturday, April 6th, from 8am-noon for the first time this season!


Although we previously announced a postponed opening day due to construction, contractors have completed their work ahead of schedule, so we’re back in action.


The site is open every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month until the fall, and it's an exclusive amenity for De Soto residents. Check out our Brush Site page for more info.

Thinking of adding some feathered friends to your family? Before you hatch any plans, remember that you'll need a Fowl Permit to keep chickens in town!

'Contain the Rain' Apps Open


Thinking about upgrading your landscaping this season?



If you install eco-friendly options like a rain barrel or rain garden, or plant native trees, you could be eligible for up to 50% reimbursement of materials and installation costs through the Johnson County ‘Contain the Rain’ program!

City Council Meeting Recap

The De Soto City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting last night, April 4th, at City Hall. View the agenda here. Quick run-down:


  • Proclaimed April Fair Housing Month
  • Discussed Property Tax Relief Policy
  • Approved ordinance revising Special Use Permits for sand and gravel extraction and concrete batch plant activities
  • Approved Public Arts Funding request from the De Soto Arts Council
  • Approved agreement for a well water replacement project

Spots are open for our April homeschoolers’ art class, themed 'Chinese Year of the Dragon!'


Students will use various art medias to create their own representations of a dragon.

Future Voter Sticker Contest


The Johnson County Election Office invites elementary and middle school students to unleash their creativity by participating in the “Future Voter” sticker design contest.

 

This initiative aims to inspire Johnson County’s youth to actively explore and express the significance of civic responsibility through art.

 

Entries must be submitted by May 3rd. Official contest rules, entry and parental/guardian consent forms, and a design template can be found at jocoelection.org/contest.
