"Daydreams"

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of us”
Oscar Wilde

I believe it’s fair to say that artists find commonality with humanity in general with our ability to create daydreams. What separates artists is our passion to take our emotions and inner reflections and to turn them into pieces of art to share with our fellow humanity. For writers it is taking pen to paper to write down and share our interior stories and daydreams.

In our waking state we frequently find ourselves falling into a reverie to ease the boredoms and adversity of life. Some of which are projections into something we wish to experience in the future, or a rewind to a pleasant memory from the past. As we age, we often find ourselves drifting back to those innocent daydreams of our adolescence. When we were isolated from the harsh realities of life and blessed with the naivete of youth, and knowing there are many new horizons ahead of us in our future. Though, as we mature in life, we can at times become a bit jaded or simply pressured by life’s realities. Though we should never forsake our ability to daydream, and equally should not view them not as merely a form of escapism or delusions, but rather, as a means to reconnect with our inner child to rekindle our innocence of youth and to break those unpleasant thoughts that invade our minds and upset our tranquility on a daily basis.

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who only dream by night”
Edgar Allan Poe

As our world is now confronted with social unrest and facing a deadly virus. We may find some solace in taking the time to drift back for a few moments to find some mindfulness in the present by rewinding to the past. And, to use these rewound daydreams to build a better today for ourselves.

“Sit in reverie and watch the changing color of the waves that break upon the idle seashore of the mind”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I will now direct you to my poem “Snow Angels in the Dust”, performed by Susan Bond, a reflection upon a past daydream and rewind to the past. So, take a few moments to journey with us to the world of Daydreams with your inner child.
