Cub Scouting in the Community

Cub Scouts from San Marino Packs 354 and Pack 361 joined forces to host their annual Lacy Park Campout on May 4-5, 2024. Inspired by the legendary music festival, this year's event dubbed "Cubchella" saw over 350 Cub Scouts and their families enjoy a weekend filled with games, activities, crafts, and music. San Marino-based BSA Troops 351, 355, 358, and 359 hosted various activity stations for Cubs, including a sea turtle lab, geocache course, plank walk race, camping demonstration, and t-shirt tie-dying. Families enjoyed dinner from The Habit food truck while local folk-rock band, Sam Slick (the drummer is a dad from Pack 354), provided a fitting soundtrack for the festivities. After dark, each Pack hosted a campfire program complete with skits, songs, s'mores, and hot cocoa.

While a larger-than-expected rain shower passed through on Saturday night, it did not dampen any spirits as Cubs and their families woke up to fresh donuts, hot coffee, an inspiring interfaith service, and clear sunny skies on Sunday morning as they broke down their tents and packed up their gear.

Greater LA Scouts Honored for Duty to God

The Catholic Committee on Scouting in Los Angeles honored 54 Scouts for their dedication to Duty to God, presenting awards including Ad Altare Dei, Pope Pius XII, and the rare Chi Rho. These young individuals were honored for embodying their Duty to God through the completion of religious emblems. Greater LA Scouting excelled, with 24 Ad Altare Dei recipients. Among them were Vincent V., Andrew B., and Mario P. Additionally, 24 Scouts were recognized with the Pope Pius XII Emblem, including Matthew H. and Dylan W. Three Scouts achieved the rare Chi Rho Award: Gianni C., Matthew R, and John S.

Congratulations to all the recipients of the Emblems and Awards from the Catholic Committee on Scouting and a special thank you to Andrea Douglas, who shared her time and faith with these youth as their facilitator and counselor.
