BUILDING OUR "GOOD PART”

By Pastor Hillary Garner

Welcome to day four of the 2021 “Spiritual Recharge” Fast. We are at the halfway point and God is moving swiftly on the behalf of many through their testimonies over the past four days.

The bible records in the book of Luke chapter 10, Jesus' encounter with two sisters, Martha and Mary as He was at the height of His ministry. Both of these women recognized and valued Him. After all, Martha invited Jesus into her house (just like many of us). In doing so, she was doing everything in her effort to prepare for the seriousness of hosting the Messiah. However, like many of us, she became irritable, frustrated, and offended when she looked around and noted that she was the only one left working while her dear sister was seated at the feet of Jesus, hanging on His every word! Like Martha, we oftentimes construct our lives from a lens of service-oriented tasks and actions. We serve the Lord by working on ministries in church; giving alms to the church’s needs and missions; caring for members and their families and availing ourselves to the service of the servants. We fill up our calendar with appointments, meetings, and mission-driven tasks that promote God’s agenda. Jesus noted that there was a more excellent way and Mary had chosen it. We could all learn a lesson in this? Do we have an appointment with God that involves sitting at His feet and in His presence? Can we point to a designated time in our daily schedule where we purpose in our soul and spirit, to read and meditate on the Word of God and allow HIM to speak to us? God wants our undivided attention. He wants us to sit at His feet and hang on every word that Jesus taught us about faith, love, and righteousness. God wants us to become more aware of the power of the precious Holy Spirit, allowing Him to work His power in our lives. God wants us to surrender our will to His will and in doing so, we will learn a more excellent way. Allow God to rebuild your desire to pursue Him and His way. It is a journey that involves surrender, sanctification, and love. What God wants to rebuild in us is far more excellent.

SCRIPTURE:

Luke 10:38-43

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at [a] Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help me.” 41 And [b] Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

PRAYER POINT:

Spirit of the living God, Help us to pursue you in a new way. Calm our soul and allow our spirit to connect with your Spirit. We surrender to the work that You are waiting to do with and in us. Help us to value Your presence without pretense. Help us to build habits that include daily meditation of Your word, prayer, and reflection. Teach us a more excellent way and help us to seek Your face and voice in all that we do. We need Your strength and power to change and build on the solid foundation of faith. We love You. Amen.

DECLARATION:

I am confident of this very thing, that the Lord, who has begun a good work in me, shall perform it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Phil. 1:6)

God Bless you!
