This week I had the pleasure of attending Piedmont Hills High Class of 2023’s graduation ceremony. As someone with a background in education, graduations are always so special. Marking this incredible milestone in a young person’s life, just as they’re about to embark on new adventures after high school…. Congratulations to the graduating class of Piedmont Hills High School! Wishing you all the very best as you write your next chapters!
It was my honor to spend some time with civics students at Piedmont Hills High School this week! They asked great questions about government and community. I know I'll be seeing some of these students serving their community at City Hall some day in the future!
I celebrated International Children's Day at Cherrywood Elementary School. It was great to see so many talented kids and such enthusiasm from the families. Special thanks to Principal Tina Choy and BUSD Board Member Thelma Boac, for all their efforts!

My Budget Proposal to Fund Affordable Housing and Emergency Interim Housing
|
The Quick Build EIH projects approved by last year’s City Council and championed by the Mayor have been a subject of intense deliberation among the community, nonprofits, and city officials. While they promise benefits to the unsheltered community, concerns have been raised regarding the potential impact on funding for affordable housing initiatives. In response to these concerns, my staff and I have been working to find a middle ground allowing for the successful implementation of the Quick Build EIH projects while simultaneously upholding the city's commitment to Measure E and affordable housing.
This is not a binary choice between affordable housing and emergency interim housing. We need to be more deliberate in our actions, prioritizing communication and collaboration between departments and agencies. We can do both. We must do both. The solution I’ve proposed does both.

Non-Profit Spotlight: Adopt My Block
|
Rescuing all breeds of dogs, Adopt My Block is a non-profit organization based in North San Jose.
In an effort to keep dogs out of our local shelters we are here to help dog owners who feel overwhelmed or are otherwise not able to provide proper care for their dogs. Through their social media accounts, they offer courtesy posts to help these pet owners connect with potential adopters. They make direct connections between owners and adopters, assist in rehoming dogs, collect applications, conduct home inspections, and set up adoption meetings.
Local animal shelters are over capacity. There are far more dogs in distress than available animal control officers on any given day. Call 408-641-1356 or email Adopt My Block if you come across a dog that is hurt or in danger.
If you or someone you know is looking for a new home for a dog or puppy, or if you're looking for that special new fur baby to add to your family, get in touch with Adopt My Block now!

Who's making a big difference in our community? A great teacher, business owner, a police officer who goes beyond the call of duty. Maybe there's someone spending their free time organizing creek clean-ups or blanket drives for the unhoused... If you've got someone special in your neighborhood, let us know by nominating them to be a District Hero!
