Industry News:
David just got back from Las Vegas attending Surfaces/Stone Expo where he was teaching another class with Greg Mowat. Greg is one of the top stone and tile experts in the United States.
The great thing about these trade shows is that you get up to date with all of the new products in the industry and revisit the manufactures to brush up the old stuff and learn new ways to make advanced product.
One of the things that are driving everyone in the stone and construction industry crazy is Blue tape on the natural stone. This is when your house is being built or getting remodeled and the contractors place some protection down to cover your marble, limestone, travertine, or other stone surface and the adhesive in the blue tape, duct tape, and even stucco tape melts into the natural stone and overtime cause staining, A lot of these stains are very hard to clean up and more than likely you have to hire a professional to clean up and this could run very costly.
David really like to have 1/8 inch foam laid across the natural stone floor and then have the contractor lay Masonite down and tape only the seams of the Masonite and not the material to the floor. This is the best protection for your natural stone.
Side note: Red Rosen paper can remove some of the polish on the stone as the workers walk on it and if they spill liquids such as coffee, water, or cold drinks then it may cause red stain in your stone.
