May 29, 2024 – Daniel Cain has experienced his fair share of tribulation in life. The peak of this turbulence came in early 2020 when the death of two grandparents was followed by a tornado in his then-home of Nashville, the onset of COVID-19 and his father's cancer diagnosis in the span of a couple months, turning his life upside down.

On his latest single "Fall" (out today) the singer again hones in on the aftermath of his father's death, looking inward at his own self worth and how tragedies like it also have a way of bringing people together. LISTEN HERE.

"It's my version of a love song with my fiancee, Sarah," confides Cain. "We first met a few month's before my father's passing, but didn't truly connect until a few months later. My father had just died by then and her father and older brother had just been in a traumatic car accident. It was those experiences of loss that we bonded over at first that instilled the belief that she's in my life for a reason through all of this the same way that I am for her."

"Fall" follows the EP's first single "Life Goes On" (LISTEN HERE), which further explores the fallout from his early 2020 hurdles and how he's used them as moments of reflection and growth rather than something to dig himself into a rut with.

"It's the most direct post-grieving song that I've written yet," Cain says of the song. "The message I hope resonates with people is that grief and sadness are valid emotions but it's important to not wallow in them, or if you are that you wallow yourself back up instead of further into a rut."

Cain continues, "A lot of it comes back to how my dad raised me. He would've told me to toughen up and move on in life, and looking back on it that is love. It didn't feel good at the time, but it has made me tougher, more resilient and better equipped to survive and succeed in the world. If that's not love then I don't know what is."

Both "Life Goes On" and "Fall" are featured on Cain's forthcoming Appalachia Untold Sessions EP, a three song effort coming June 14 via Los Angeles-based 10K Projects. All songs were recorded by John Price of Appalachia Untold — a video platform that showcases the unheard voices and untold stories of musicians who call North America's most prominent eastern mountain range home — inside the Kanawha State Forest outside Charleston, WV.

Based in Danville, Ky., Cain only began writing songs and playing music in the fallout of his father's cancer diagnosis, an experience that ultimately brought him and his dad closer together than ever before prior to his death in December 2021. In the two and a half years since he's grown into one of the state's most promising new talents through performances at regional venues like Duke's Indy, Renfro Valley Entertainment Center and The Burl.
