Just Around the Corner

“Nothing accursed will be found there anymore. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.”
Revelation 22:3

Last summer, I hiked a well-known trail in Sedona, Arizona called Devil’s Bridge. It bears that name because at the end of the hike, there is a beautiful arch made of sandstone, which is nothing short of a natural wonder. The hike itself is only about 4.5 miles round trip, but the hot desert sun can make it challenging. I embarked upon my hike on a late afternoon in mid-June and on the backend of several hikes earlier that day. Not surprisingly, halfway up the mountain, I began to tire. Still, I pressed on. As I neared the summit, the trail grew steeper, necessitating the use of my hands as well as my feet. I felt like a cat, albeit an uncoordinated one. As I neared the top, I rested a bit to catch my breath. As I stood next to the trail, I witnessed several hikers descending from the summit. As a lady passed by, I asked her, “How much longer to the top?” She responded, “Your almost there. Keep going, it’s worth it.” That was all I needed to hear. Suddenly, I had renewed sense of purpose and, within a few minutes, found myself standing victoriously atop Devil’s Bridge.

There are times when we feel as though we cannot go on. The weight of life bears down upon us, sapping our motivation to carry on. In moments like these, it is helpful to know there is good news just around the corner. The Bible offers us a picture of future hope; in Revelation 22, we read, Nothing accursed will be found there anymore. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.” In Chapter 21, we read, He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) These are words of encouragement for weary travelers. They offer us a glimpse of what awaits just around the corner. So, whatever you are going through, whatever obstacle that you face, whatever burden is bringing you down, know that, in God’s plan, there is good news just around the corner.
