In You: denotes present or enclosed, surrounded by limits; as in a house; in a fort; in a city. It denotes a state of being mixed, as sugar in tea; or combined, as carbonic acid in coal. It denotes present in time, as in that hour or day. A man in spirits or good courage, denotes one who possesses at the time spirits or courage.
Here Jesus admonishes us that the Spirit is currently among them but there is a day coming that He will choose to live in us. I hear so much talk about the demon possessed and can a child of God be demon possessed. There is a quick and simple answer. Actually, Jesus defines that for us in 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NKJV) Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?”
There is no way that the Holy Spirit is going to share a body with the unfruitful spirit of darkness. They cannot co-exist. Today we see a lot of believers who are oppressed by the devil or his demons, but that battleground has gone to the mind, not the spirit or body.
When we are born again, Christ Spirit comes to dwell with and be in us. There can be no closer relationship than this, when someone dwells in you. In the physical world we call this marriage where the two shall be one and the result is a child who is both the father and mother. This is where we are with the ‘Father of Lights’. He not only makes us one with the Father and Jesus, but He makes us one with the other believers.
You see why it is so consequential that you love one another the way Christ loved the church and gave himself up for us. We are all one in Christ Jesus by the Holy Spirit that makes us brother and sister. The union is in place and no man can change that. This is the number one role of the devil, our arch enemy, to bring division, not just because it creates hurt, but it weakens us to the point that we become non effectual in the working of the body of Christ.
This is a bad situation because we are all a team and each of us has a role to play and a position to be in. We will not win the championship if we do not play together and think together and mold ourselves as a team. This is one of the goals I have in many letters to you. Teach us oneness in the body of Christ where we can become a mighty force in stomping out the works of the adversary and put him on the bench. Because he has fouled out of the game, he needs to stay out of the game.
This we can do, but it will take the power of the Holy Spirit living in and working on us plus doing through us as a team. Together we can get it done, but the team needs to get together and lay down any indifferences or judgments and lets all be led by the Spirit of God. Galatians 5:18 (AMP) But if you are guided (led) by the [Holy] Spirit, you are not subject to the Law. Romans 8:14 (NASB) For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
